Early and Personal Life

Zoulfa Katouh has been passionate about books and writing ever since she was a young girl. When she was eight, her mother gifted her with a copy of Anne of Green Gables and her love for reading was born. She would often sneak books into her school desk and read during classes, letting her imagination run wild. It wasn’t long before she mustered up the courage to put the stories in her head down on paper.

Growing up, Zoulfa took her love of books to a whole new level. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, and is now in pursuit of a master’s degree in Drug Sciences. Additionally, she is trilingual in English, Arabic and German. She currently resides in Switzerland, where she draws inspiration from the beautiful, Studio Ghibli-esque scenery. When she’s not out exploring the nature around her, she can be found drinking iced coffee, baking aesthetically pleasing cakes and cookies, and talking about BTS!

Writing Career

Zoulfa Katouh has made a name for herself in the writing industry. Her debut novel, ‘As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow,’ was first published back in 2022 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and Bloomsbury, making her the first Syrian YA author to be published in both the US and UK. Her works are represented by Alexandra Levick at Writers House, and her biggest dream is to have Kim Nam-joon read one of her books.

Aside from her literary debut, Zoulfa still has plenty more to offer. She is passionate about her work and continues to strive for success in her career. She hopes to inspire other writers to never give up on their dreams, and to always be proud and passionate about their work.

Zoulfa Katouh’s debut stand-alone Young Adult contemporary novel, ‘As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow’, was published on September 13, 2022 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. This novel gained much attention and was awarded the Goodreads Choice Award, a prestigious accolade. It was very well-received and continues to be popular.

Fearful of the danger, she created an imaginary companion called Khawf to keep her safe.
