“Ready to Fumble” is the first novel in the “Worst Detective Ever” series, which was released in the year 2017. Joey Darling is still trying to separate herself from her invincible alter ego of Raven. It catapulted her to fame and into the role of Hollywood’s sweetheart.
Her marriage ends, her finances dwindle, and her father goes missing. Joey finds that she is on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, just trying to piece her life back out of the limelight. A woman finds Raven, actually Joey, and wants to hire her fictional counterpart to locate a missing boyfriend. Somebody starts staging crime scenes to match one of the episodes of Relentless, Joey has zero choice but to get involved.

Will Joey be able to channel her inner Raven and figure out just whodunit before she winds up totally done in? Where could her father be anyhow? Will she be able to handle fame, or is going off into obscurity the wiser option?
This is an entertaining read with a relatable and likable heroine, even if she is a former star of television. She is very quirky and flawed, it makes it tough not to like her a lot. Her life isn’t perfect and pristine, making it a lot easier to relate to her, even with her star status. Barritt has a knack for writing zany characters who get caught up in some odd and even dangerous situations.
“Reign of Error” is the second novel in the “Worst Detective Ever” series, which was released in the year 2017. A Polar Plunge goes horribly wrong and somebody dies in the icy water, ex-TV detective Joey Darling wants nothing at all to do with the following investigation. Her picture is found inside the dead guy’s wallet and witnesses place her as the last person to be seen with the guy. She realizes that she has just gotten cast in a role she never wanted: suspect.
Joey makes a dramatic mistake of challenging the murderer on camera, and the race is on to find the killer before he is able to find her. Danger abounds and the suspects are tougher to find
the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island. As Joey finds a connection with the case and her father’s vanishing, she knows there is no backing out.
The more Joey tries to be like her detective alter ego, the more wrong things wind up going. Is Joey going to figure this one out? Or is her reign of error going to continue?
Right from the start, readers were hooked into the story, and couldn’t put the book down for very long. Joey is an endearing character who is great at getting into trouble. The book has interesting characters and a plot that is easy to follow.
“Safety in Blunders” is the third novel in the “Worst Detective Ever” series, which was released in the year 2017. After Joey finds a mermaid tail with fresh blood drops while she is hiking in an isolated nature preserve and knows that something suspicious is happening.
The details start to surface, Joey realizes that she is dealing with a problem that she has encountered way too much. Somebody that is desperate for fame that falls victim to some predator. With Zane’s help, as well as the opposition of Jackson Sullivan, Joey is on the hunt for some answers. The whole time, she is unaware of the deadly net that she is about get herself all caught up in.
Joey realizes that she is a fish out of water when it comes to solving cases, but will she be able to use her talents, acting, to help locate the missing lady? Or is she going to wind up swimming with sharks?
Barritt is able to deliver the right amount of funny parts, some romance, and plenty of danger and mystery to keep the attention of the reader the entire time. Readers have a fun time trying to solve Joey’s mystery with her. They even found themselves being surprised by some things.
“Join the Flub” is the fourth novel in the “Worst Detective Ever” series, which was released in the year 2017. Joey Darling’s local movie premiere was supposed to be a win for all involved. All of the money raised would go to the children’s wing at a local hospital and the buzz online would creative enough positive press for the tourism in the area. Things become awry after the event is sabotaged and Joey’s stunt double gets seriously injured.
Suspects look sparser than good G-rated flicks, and the cops fear the target could have actually been Joey. Detective Sullivan and Zane, both guys that have been competing for Joey’s affections, insist on trading off guard duty until the perp is arrested. To make things worse, Joey’s ex turns up right before he releases his tell-all book about his life with Joey.
Somebody appears to be determined to create some real-life drama. Joey is not one to be deterred. Even though a film-worthy villain would like to stop the production, and possibly a few people’s lives, Joey is determined to see the show go on.
Once again, readers were trying to piece the mystery together with Joey in the book. Barritt gets you laughing and cringing at everything happening in the book. She brings you into this world, and then you find yourself not wanting to leave. Right from the start of the first book, readers loved Joey and love reading mysteries she stars in.
