William S. Cohen is a noteworthy politician and novelist from America, who likes to write mystery, suspense, thriller, and nonfiction books. As a politician, he has first served House of Representatives & Senate of the US and then as the Defense Secretary under the rule of office of Bill Clinton. For the purpose of developing the plots of his books as an author, he uses his experience of working towards defense planning and international affairs. Author Cohen has written a few standalone books in his career as well as a thriller series featuring the chief protagonist Sean Falcone. He has also penned several nonfiction novels and a poetry collection. The career of author Cohen in fiction writing started in the year 1985 with the book titled Double Man. Cohen followed it up by another one in the next year with the title A Baker’s Nickel. The first nonfiction book written by him is called Getting the Most Out of Washington. Cohen’s Sean Falcone books are quite well known in the thriller genre. Their tremendous success has had a great impact on Cohen’s career as he climbed the ladders of success and helped himself in getting included among the noteworthy authors. Author Cohen was born on August 28, 1940, in Bangor, Maine, U.S. His father was a Jewish immigrant from Russia, named Reuben Cohen, while his mother belonged to the ancestry of Protestant Irish and was named Clara Harltey. Cohen’s parents were the owners of the Bangor Rye Bread Company. Author Cohen completed his school education in 1958 from the Bangor High School. Following this, he joined the Bowdoin College and graduated cum laude in 1962 with a BA degree in the Latin subject. When Cohen was a student in the college, he was included as a brother in Psi Upsilon Fraternity’s Kappa chapter. During his school and college days, author Cohen used to play basketball very much. He was a famous player of this game was listed in the basketball team of the all state high school & college of Maine. While in college, author Cohen was named among the All Star Hall of Fame of New England. After his graduation from college, Cohen started studying law at the School of Law in Boston University and graduated cum laude in 1965 with a degree in Bachelor of Laws. After obtaining his law degree, Cohen became a partner at a law firm in Bangor. Cohen was appointed as an assistant attorney for the Penobscot County and served between 1968 and 1970. In 1968, author Cohen joined Bangor’s Husson College as an instructor. Later, he joined the Maine University as a business administration instructor. Cohen was the vice president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of Maine until 1972. He was also a fellow at the JF Kennedy Politics Institute at the Harvard University. In the same year, he was elected into Bangor’s City Council and served as Mayor for a year.
After winning a seat in the Representatives House in 1972, Cohen laid the foundation of his successful political career. Six years later, Cohen won election to the Senate. With this, he went on to serve as a great leader in the US politics and held various offices. During the course of his political career, Cohen has spoken on numerous social issues related to public interest. Some of the issues that he has addressed include treatment and status of gay and lesbians in US military, women’s role in combat and other jobs, sexual harassment, racism, etc. Author Cohen has married for a total of 2 times in his life. His marriage with his first wife Diana Dunn ended with a divorce in 1987. Then, he married Janet Langhart in 1996. Janet had refused several proposals from Cohen previously because she was worried that their interracial marriage would affect his political career in the Senate reelection. However, Cohen managed everything effectively and achieved more success after their marriage.
The Sean Falcone series written by William S. Cohen is comprised of 3 books in total, which were released between the years 2011 and 2015. Its third book is expected to be released in 2018. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘Blink of an Eye’. It was released by the Forge Books in the year 2011. Author Cohen has introduced the central character in this book a Sean Falcone, who is depicted as a national security advisor of America. At the start of the book, it is depicted that a major city in America gets destroyed by a nuclear bomb. Thousands have lost their lives and numerous others are feared to be dead soon due to radiation poisoning. The media show that the attackers have threatened to launch more attacks. Many cities in America have started to panic and the American intelligence faces a great challenge for detecting the nuclear devices and finding out the ones responsible for the attack. The government appoints Sean Falcone to identify the attackers and track them down. Several powerful forces in the country say that Iran is involved in the attack. But, Sean believes that appearances are always deceiving and he does not want to take any more chances, especially when millions of people have died and many more innocent people are at the risk of dying. With his investigation, Falcone uncovers a shocking secret hidden in Washington’s upper class society. However, he needs a solid proof to convince the president and the people of America about the deadly conspiracy.
The sequel to the first book of this series is called ‘Collision’. It was published by Force Books in 2015. Once again, author Cohen has depicted Sean Falcone playing the central role in the story. At the beginning of the book’s story, it is described the Sean Falcone has left his job of the United States President’s advisor in the matters of national security. When a mass killing takes place near an elite law firm in Washington, Sean Falcone attacks one of the gunmen and kills him. As he tries to nab another shooter, he flees the spot and takes away a laptop containing important information. The information is related to an asteroid that is being mined by a billionaire in America and his secret partner from Russia. Due to his involvement in the case, Falcone plunges into a mystery that involves NASA, Washington, the White House, several corrupt senators, and an international crime boss. Now, Sean Falcone is required to get to the bottom of the mystery as soon as possible or else there will be a great loss of human life in the entire city.
