Wayne Allen Sallee is a Chicago-born author who is best known for writing novellas and short fiction in the horror and crime genres. He made his debut with the publishing of “The Holy Terror” in 1992 followed by “Proactive Contrition” her memoir.
In 2016, she published a collection of short stories titled “Rapid Transit,” which was a compilation of 30 short stories he had written over the years.

Sallee has to be one of the most fascinating authors out there, given his range of experiences. He is one of the very few people who have been hit by both a bus and a car and survived both incidents.

He has also managed to persevere the effects of a chronic medical condition and continued to publish his works for more than two decades. The fact that he continued to write despite all the challenges will never cease to amaze his fans.
Over the years, his works have garnered critical acclaim and he made the final shortlist of the prestigious Bram Stoker Award at least five times. He is now known for his bestselling novels and more short stories than you can count.
However, what he is still best known for is his correspondence over the years with John Wyne Gacy, the notorious serial killer.

Allen Sallee corresponded back and forth with John Wayne Gacy who had been found guilty of some heinous crimes. The criminal was executed for raping and then murdering more than forty male victims during the early 1970s.

Wayne began writing to Gacy out of almost nothing and never thought it would become as consequential as it would. He was at New York’s Stony Brook University attending a convention when he met someone that had a very interesting article.
The title of the article which had recently been published was “They Call Him Mr. Gacy.” All it was were copies of letters that had been sent to the killer and the replies he sent back which showed a very prolific man. In fact, even Oprah Winfrey had requested a televised interview with the man.

Wayne Allen Sallee wanted to research the man to see how much information the prison system would allow to get in and what he would get back. The letters he saw in the article included his address in the Menard Correctional Center, which made things very easy.
Wayne began writing to him in 1991 and started asking him about his artwork since that seemed like what everybody was interested in. In his research, he learned that convicts are not allowed to profit from their crimes under the “Son of Sam law.”
He would then start writing to him asking how he managed to sell his artwork and Gacy showed how creative he could be in getting his artwork out, despite the law against it.

“For You the Living” by Wayne Allen Sallee is a morbid short story that draws its inspiration from a plague that results in heightened sexuality. However, once the sexuality reaches its peak, the body begins falling apart rapidly.
The work is set in Chicago where the city has been trying to shut itself up using snowplows. They are hoping this will help grind the plague victims into nothingness so that they can no longer infect other healthy residents.
It is a gruesome story with little hope of survival for the lead and the human race that he is part of. Even though there are hints that the virus may have arisen from the search for a cure for AIDs, this line is not heavily pursued.
It makes for a dark story of humans trying their best to keep living and functioning against a deadly and powerful enemy. It is a microscopic organism against which humans can only react rather than act upon.

“For You The Living” is a work that tells of a Plague in the diary form popularized by HP Lovecraft. Wayne Sallee manages to expertly mingle the gruesome with the deeply personal to make for a creepy, riveting, hilarious, and ghastly tale.
It is in part a wholly original take on what may be described as a heart-wrenching love story and at the same time a zombie apocalypse work.

Wayne Allen Sallee’s novel “The Holy Terror” is the story of Frank Haid, the serial killer who the media and Chicago police have nicknamed the Painkiller.

He has in the recent past killed 18 paralytics and has said that he takes his commands from an unseen presence he likes to refer to as his Father. The being which commands the homicidal maniac usually speaks to him using the voice of his deceased uncle.
The strange thing is that he has been keeping the rotting corpse of the man in his living room all this time for some unexplainable reason. Frank is known for destroying the bodies of his victims and the evidence in a rather puzzling manner.
He particularly targets the residents of a home for the handicapped named Marclinn until the residents believe they have to take matters into their own hands.

Their efforts soon have them coming into contact with the bizarre underworld of Chicago including some deformed prostitutes and some drug-addicted killers.

Crippled emotionally and physically, the inhabitants of Marclinn need to deal with their limitations before they can take on and defeat the enemy.

Evan Shustak is their unlikely frontman and the centerpiece of the novel who dons a superhero outfit. This includes a plaid heating pad, wrist braces, and a utility belt with aspirin and vitamins.

Wayne Allen Sallee’s novel “I Cannot Protect Her Ever Again” is a painful and deeply thought-out journey through the author’s heart and mind.

While initially, it seems like a feel-good and happy message of American solidarity, this work showcases the inner battle of the author. The author goes again the grain of authors who write stories to frighten people.
For instance, many stories were written following the 9/11 attacks that resulted in mind-numbing helplessness.

The author takes us along on his inner battle journey as he seeks to protect a godchild that is almost impossible to protect in all the madness that exists.
Moreover, the bad guys are willing to take themselves out alongside innocents and for them, human life is not as precious.
