Warren Murphy was one of the noteworthy authors from The United States, who was famous for writing thriller, science fiction, and crime fiction books. He was particularly well known for writing the highly successful series called the Destroyer, which went on to become the basis of the Hollywood movie titled Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. Author Murphy was born on September 13, 1933 in the Jersey City, New Jersey, United States. Initially, he used to work in the fields of politics and journalism. He stopped all of it later when he came up with the Destroyer series, which he co-wrote with author Richard Sapir in the year 1971. Author Murphy has also worked as a screenwriter for a couple of Hollywood films. The works of Murphy have helped him to win more than a dozen awards at the national level, which include multiple Shamaus and Edgar Awards. Apart from writing thriller books, author Murphy also used to involve himself in giving lectures at the college and university levels. Before the start of his writing career, Murphy has tried working for a number of jobs, including working on a farm as well as as a public relations in charge at a brother. The list of other odd jobs that he was associated with include being a sequin polisher, newspaper editor, a movie usher, etc. According to him, he became bad after trying out all these jobs and became an author. His writing career spanned for more than 200 books. In between his career, he decided to take retirement from writing on many occasions, but was not able to do so somehow. Eventually, he continued to write books until the final days of his life. He remained a futurist all through his life and even tried entering into the world of electronic publication.
During the later stages of his life, he went on to establish his own publishing company in collaboration with his sons. The name of his publishing company is Destroyer Books. Author Murphy is best known for writing the books of the Destroyer series. The series consists of more than 150 novels and has sold more than 50 million copies all over the world in print alone. This makes this series one of the longest running ones and it is also included in the list of all time bestselling series. Many movies, television pilots, rip-offs, etc., have been made based on the books of this series. Because of his immense success and vast experience in writing crime and thriller books, he is regarded as a teacher and a mentor to a whole generation of writers of the thriller and crime genres. The books and novels written by author Murphy have helped him to win a total of 10 national awards, of which 2 are Edgar award and 2 are Shamus awards. In addition to these awards, he has also received numerous nominations throughout his career. The movies for which he has written screenplays include Lethal Weapon II and The Eiger Sanction, which stars Clint Eastwood in the lead role. A television show called ‘Murphy’s Law’ is based on his novel series titled Trace. This TV show stars Maggie Han and George Segal. Author Murphy has served as a board member of the MWA. Also, he was associated with various other writers’ association as a member, including Screenwriters Guild, Association of International Crime Writers, League of American Crime Writers, etc. He had married multiple times and had a total of 7 children. One of his former wives is Nancy Cartwright, whom he had married in the year 1988 and divorced in the year 2002. They had two children together. The death of author Murphy occurred on September 4, 2015, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States.
One of the most popular novel series written by Warren Murphy is known as Legacy. The Legacy series consists of 5 books in total, which were released between the years 2012 and 2015. This series is full of action packed sequences and is said to be based on the well known Destroyer series. In developing this series, author Murphy had collaborated with Gerald Welch. The two tried to make the readers aware of the mythical martial art form of Sinanju through this novel series. The books in the series revolve around the happenings in the lives of the chief characters named Stone Smith and Freya Williams, who are depicted by author Murphy as siblings and the experts in Sinanju. One of the famous books of this series is titled as ‘Forgotten Son’. It was released by the Destroyer publication in the year 2012. At the start of the book, author Murphy has shown that for more than 5000 years, there have been 3 binding rules for all the Sinanju Masters. First, the payment should always be done in gold and no checks are allowed. The second rule says that there is only 1 Master and 1 pupil. And according to the final rule, no woman is allowed to receive the training of Sinanju. One of the characters named Sunny Joe Roam is depicted as not agreeing with the last 2 rules. He intends to fulfill the oldest commitment of his tribe and would go to any extent to do so. He decides to give the Sinanju training to Stone Smith and his half sister named Freya Williams. With this, Sunny hopes that the tribe as well the brother-sister pair will usher into a new era. After getting trained in the deadly form of martial art, Freya and Stone are asked to accompany their new boss named Benjamin Cole and help him in stopping the Great Ninja Army of Mexico from entering into the southwestern region of the United States. Now, Sunny seems eager to see how well the pair makes use of their Sinanju training.
Another popular book written by Murphy in the series is titled as ‘Mother Mine’. The Destroyer Books also released this book in the year 2015. Author Murphy has shown at the beginning of this book’s plot that Stone and Freya think of quitting as the deadly assassins. They are about to discover the truths related to their past lives and if this happens, Sunny fears that the future of Sinanju will be lost forever. When Stone comes across his long lost mother, he becomes extremely thrilled. However, his thought of having a simple and easy family is about to be proven wrong as he is about to learn some hard facts about his family. On the other hand, his sister has gone away to explore her family heritage in the other part of the world. There, she lands in a great trouble when her homeland’s might warriors get murdered and she becomes the prime suspect. It appears that someone is trying to frame her and make her pay in blood. Now, it is up to Stone to visit his homeland and save his sister from the dangerous situation. But, for doing so, he will have to make use of Sinanju once again. Stone does not think twice as this time, her sister’s life is at stake.
