Walter Jon Williams is an American published author and actor and has also written for television (“All Great Neptune’s Ocean”, Andromeda).
Born October 15, 1953 in Dublin, Minnesota, this writer also goes by the pen name of Jon Williams. In the course of his career, he has published several full length novels as well as some collections of short fiction. Many of these fall into the genre of fantasy or science fiction, such as City on Fire or Hardwired, among several others. Some of his novels could also be classified as historical adventure stories.
The author is a student of Kenpo Karate, in which he is the proud holder of a fourth degree black belt. His hobbies besides writing novels include sailing as well as going scuba diving. He resides in the state of New Mexico. He is married to Kathy Hedges, his wife.
Williams first came into print in 1980 with the release of his book The Privateer. It would be the first in the Privateers and Gentlemen series, a fictional series of novels that would have several of its stories published. He would author it under the pen name of Jon Williams.
He would also create the Hardwired series under his full name of Walter Jon Williams. The first book in the series was published in 1986. This is a science fiction series where the thrills never stop coming! The sequel to the debut story would come out shortly after and has the exciting title of Voice of the Whirlwind. If you are a big fan of other science fiction writers such as Isaac Asimov or Philip K. Dick or love anything set in space, then you might want to consider giving this unique series a try.
Hardwired is the engaging first story in the series by the same name. If you are always down to experience some high tech chills and thrills along with some characters that you won’t soon forget, this is a book that you should check out!
The main character in this story would be Cowboy. That is not what he does– that is his actual name. He has had a pretty colorful life and you could say that he’s always interested in getting a little adrenaline rush going. This is the type of guy that isn’t afraid to die but is afraid to waste his life not living it the way that he wants to.
Cowboy used to be a fighter pilot and he was pretty good at what he did. Now he has totally switched careers, and he’s not up in the sky anymore trying to take down enemy combatants. However, now Cowboy has found himself to be hardwired, so to speak.
What being ‘hardwired’ means is that he has skull sockets that are hooked up directly to the electronic hardware he has installed. He has now gone beyond man to some type of machine. When he meets Sarah, he knows that they have the potential to join up and become a great team.
Sarah is the type of thrill seeker that he knows that he’ll get along with. The benefit to teaming up with someone like this is that she also has cyber parts. She at least knows where he’s coming from, and isn’t going to think that he’s a total weirdo. She is a gun for hire and her services are available to the right person for a price.
He’ll do whatever it takes when it comes to trying to get his freedom. Can Cowboy combine his talents with the skills that Sarah has to achieve what he wants? He’ll do whatever it takes to try and gain independence from the Orbitals. These rapacious bunch are all that stand between him and total independence, and he’s willing to take whatever risks are required in order to have his shot at it.
Will Cowboy be able to achieve his goal, or will he fall short when it comes to hitting the mark on his mission? You’re going to have to pick up a copy of your own to find out! Look for this unforgettable novel and find out why this is one of the best books that this author has written so far.
The second book in the thrilling Hardwired series by Walter Jon Williams is titled Voice of the Whirlwind. If you enjoyed reading the first story in this fast paced science fiction series, then you will want to check out the engaging second story that follows it and pick up right where you left off!
In the first story, readers got the chance to become acquainted with the character of Cowboy. Now they are in for an entirely new ride with a new character in the same world. Meet the character named Steward.
Steward may have an unusual name, but he is also an unusual type of person. He’s not just a regular human being– he’s different from people that would be so-called normal because he is a clone. His very existence was made possible by lifting a DNA blueprint from an already existing person in the world.
Steward needs a brain scan and update for which he is about 15 years overdue. His allegiance is to the Orbital Policorp. However, he doesn’t have any idea that this corporation has since collapsed. On top of that, the many friends that he left behind were left to perish by the dozens by engaging in combat among the stars.
A lot has happened, and Steward will go on to find out that history has changed too. Humanity has established contact and friendly relations with a race of aliens, and he has not one but a total of two wives choose to divorce him.
He’s doing the best that he can, but will all of these changes be too much for this clone to take? Steward is going to have to sink or swim. So much has transformed about the world that he once was so familiar with.
Will he be able to adapt and handle the changes that have been made, or will it be so overwhelming that he just can’t deal? Pick up the second book in the Hardwired series and read to the end to catch this exciting conclusion!
