Vered Ehsani is a South African novelist best known for paranormal, mystery, and historical fiction novels. While she was born in South Africa and has lived in London, she has been living in Kenya for more than two decades.
Outside of her writing, she is also an environmental consultant, engineer, and lover of all creative things. This is because Vered prides herself on being both analytical and creative, and loves a good challenge.
She wrote her first-ever story had its lead as a naughty unicorn. She penned that first story by hand when she was just seven years old and used candy-colored pencil crayons to illustrate every page.
Vered published “Diary of a Part Time Ghost” her debut novel in 2011 and has never looked back since.
Between 1989 and 1996, Vered Ehsani went to the University of British Columbia in Canada where she graduated with a “Civil Engineering Bachelor of Applied Science” degree.
In 2005, she graduated with a master’s in Environmental Studies from Imperial College London, where she studied long distance since she had to look after her children.
For nearly a year between 2014 and 2015, she was a Prestige Lifestyle Magazine editor in chief where she did pretty much anything from managing content providers, deciding on the vision, and themes, working on layouts, and editing the articles.
Ehsani did all this even while she was studying a women’s wellness course and writing her novels. Starting in 2012, she provided environmental consultancy services, impact assessments, and audits for a range of sectors.
In this regard, she has provided global market analysis on vehicles and fuels and for the United Nations Environment Program, she provided a global air quality measuring tool.
As a wellness coach, she helps companies, groups, and individuals bring calm into their lives by managing productivity and health.
Since 2023, she has been working under “Realm Seeker Studio,” which she founded as a brand content creator and storyteller.
Even though she only started in 2011, she is now a well-accomplished author with more than forty works of fiction to her name.
Vered Ehsani loves living in Kenya with her family and a ton of amusing animals in their home.
She has often said that she finds inspiration from the monkeys in her backyard for the many upbeat, and fun adventures with a supernatural twist that she writes.
Ehsani is very good at penning witty and quirky characters who don’t fit the typical template, even though this is not because she never tries.
She is also known for penning fanciful, charming and mind-refreshing reads that remind you that the world can be a delightful place with stories.
Vered Ehsani’s novel “Ghosts of Tsavo” is the first novel of the “Society for Paranormals” series of novels.
The lead in the series is a widowed Victorian named Beatrice Knight who lives in Africa at the beginning of the 20th century. She lives with several disagreeable relatives who take her as an all-around inconvenience and servant.
However, what nobody knows is that Beatrice is a member of the “Society for Curious Animals and Paranormals,” where she is an investigator. She has the gift of being able to smell and see supernatural beings and ghosts.
In London, she dealt with the occasional vampire and rogue werewolves and hence when circumstances forced her to move to Nairobi, the society could not have been more thrilled.
As one of their best investigators, she will be charged with investigating the dark paranormal activity there.
But the ghost of Gideon her late husband who tags along is not so thrilled, even though Beatrice is a well-bred woman who will do anything to do her duty.
Upon arriving in Nairobi, she finds that the beasties and spirits prowling the savannas of East Africa are nothing like those she had dealt with in the English capital.
“The Automaton’s Wife” by Vered Ehsani continues to follow the life and times of Mrs. Beatrice Knight.
As a proper lady from the Victorian era, she now makes her home in the African wilds after some severe financial reversals forced her to leave London where she had lived for years.
In Nairobi, Knight studies the paranormal entities, even as Mrs. Steward her aunt, and Lilly her cousin who she lives with are always complaining that they are too far away from the London social scene.
Lilly is desperately in need of a husband but London is dealing with an epidemic of influenza. When they learn that Kenya will be getting a new governor who has two sons, they get excited, believing one of them is sure to be smitten with Lilly.
Meanwhile, the Automaton which belongs to Dr. Cricket has gone missing and Beatrice believes Gideon her husband took it so that he can take control of it and come back to life so that he can get her back.
Things get hairy when the Automaton is found but it is harboring a spirit that is not as friendly as Gideon her husband.
Vered Ehsani’s novel “Revenge of the Mantis” opens with things much better for Beatrice Knight. But then an African Lightning God comes into her barn announcing that her arch nemesis will soon be paying her an unexpected visit.
Koki, the giant Preying Mantis will not be so easily dissuaded this time as he is determined to exact revenge on the intrepid paranormal investigator.
She will not have to answer the important question of whom or what she will take out as a sacrifice so that she can defeat the Mantis. To make things even more complicated, Mr. Timmons offers her a terrible possibility that is also too tempting.
But will she survive long enough to make the all-important decision?
It is a work that comes with all manner of interesting backstories and surprises about the past of the indomitable Mrs. Knight written in smooth prose.
Beatrice remains as sharp-tongued as ever but the good thing is that she still has her share of courage and a well-honed sense of duty.
