Rick Riordan is an American author of fiction. He was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1964.

He is perhaps most well known for being the author of the Percy Jackson series. There have been several movies made based off these books, starting with The Lightning Thief in 2010 and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in 2013. Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse will be the third movie based off a book in the series.

However, Riordan says that once he sold the rights to the Disney Book Group, he realized that he could not maintain his job teaching full time and write at the pace that he needed to as he would be required to write one book for adults and another for children a year. Reluctantly, he gave up his job working as a teacher to focus on writing.

Rick is not just known for his novels for kids, but also for his work writing for the adult reader too! His mystery novels have even won him a few awards. However, he is really well known for his Olympians series too to both kids, young adults, and adult fans of the series!

Rick says that the idea for the book came to mind when he was in San Francisco, teaching middle school kids about Greek mythology. Just like that, the Lightning Thief and the idea for Camp Half Blood were born. Riordan started writing the story down and history was made. Some believe that in order to help keep the secret and avoid startling the mass population, Riordan took an oath to present the writings of the stories of Percy Jackson and friends and the camp as fictional in nature.

The author says that the rumors that the camp exists may just be true, and he is simply there recording what happens with the young demigods there during his summers. No one can know for sure. Riordan currently resides in Texas, the Lone Star state, with his two sons and his wife. He hangs out with them when he isn’t busy writing his next big upcoming book!

This series is similar to the Percy Jackson series in that it concerns immortals and the gods– names that you might know like Apollo and Zeus. This fictional series kicked off in 2016 with the publication of the debut novel, The Hidden Oracle. It was quickly followed by the sequel, The Dark Prophecy. The third book in the series, titled The Burning Maze, came out in 2018.
