About Tim Akers
The American fantasy and science-fiction writer Tim Akers is well known for his fun and imaginative take on genre fiction. Really getting to the heart of it he manages to put himself forward in a manner which is both direct and to the point. This has proven to be hugely successful worldwide, as he understands his readers, knowing exactly what they’re looking for.
His work is epic in both its scope and scale too, whilst retaining a human intimate level, keeping it personal throughout. Creating characters that stick with readers just as much as his use of world-building, he’s definitely a writer with a lot of ambition. This is something that readers from around the world have responded to, allowing him to become a household name for many.
Early and Personal Life:
Born in 1972 on the 12th of December, Tim Akers was born and raised in the state of North Carolina, America. He was an only son born to a theologian parent, as he’d show an interest in literature himself from an early age. This would develop throughout his life, on into his adult career as a writer, as he would hone his voice and his craft.
Moving to Chicago to study at university, he would go on to live there for the course of the next decade and beyond. It would also be here that he met and married his wife, as he continued to write, finding his own unique style and approach to the genre. Looking for new and interesting ideas all of the time, his concepts and characters would leap from the page, as he begun to stand-out.
Working with databases as well as writing, Tim Akers would become a resourceful and creative individual, something which shone through in his writing. Creating scores of immersive high-concept fantasy scenarios and premises, he’d soon be well on his way to becoming a world renowned author. Looking to produce epic fantasy, he’d finally become a fully fledged full-time writer, combining a variety of different elements within his stories.
Still writing to this very day, there’s a lot more to come yet, as he continues to put out titles at a regular pace. Bringing a lot of ideas in from his own life too, he invests a lot of himself in his writing, making for the idiosyncratic he currently is today. There’s a lot more planned on the horizon too, and this is definitely not stopping any time soon, marking him very much as a writer to watch.
Writing Career:
In 2009 Tim Akers would bring out his first novel, which was titled ‘Heart of Veridon’, as it established him as an author of fantasy. This would also set up the ‘Burn Cycle’ series, with another two books following on afterwards, as he’d promptly make a name for himself. Showing his skills and imagination as a writer, he’d immediately push the genre in both new and interesting directions.
Following this he’d also go on to produce numerous other well received series, many of which would vary in genre. Starting out largely creating fantasy worlds though, he’d later produce the first in the ‘Hallowed War’ trilogy, beginning with ‘The Pagan Night’ in 2016. Prior to this though, he’d veer off into science-fiction with the first in ‘Gunpowder Gods’ series in 2013, with ‘The Quiet Front’.
Utilizing a sense of the epic, Akers would really make the most of the genre, fully allowing it to come to life. Balancing this finely against his characters, he’d succeed in keeping the two in equal measure, not sacrificing one for the other. Getting across his many themes and ideas too, he always has something to say, giving his work a very real personality.
Living with his wife in Chicago along with their German shepherd, he continues to write, maintaining a presence both online and off. His profile as a writer grows every day too, as his writing career builds, with many of his series carrying on. Working with a variety of different genres, he has plenty more to say, with more and more discovering his stories all the time.
The Winter Vow
First published in 2018 through the Titan Books publishing label, this would originally come out on the 21st of August. Marking the third title in the ongoing series titled ‘The Hallowed War’, it was a fantasy collection with a long-running narrative arc. Continuing on from the previous title, it would finalize the trilogy, giving a satisfactory conclusion for the many that’d been following the series.
The ancient Pagan ways of the land have been all but eliminated by the now ruling Church, who oversee their charge with an iron hand. This hasn’t been able to curb the age old battle between the north and the south though, with the Inquisition tearing across the land in pursuit of demonic gheists. Now it’s up to Gwendolyn Adair, along with Ian and Malcolm Blakeley, who must rise to occasion as the three heroes who will save the land. Can they manage it in the face of it all? Will they be able to restore order once more? What will become of the Winter Vow?
The Horns of Ruin
This would be a stand-alone effort from early on in the writing career of Tim Akers, with its entirely self-contained steampunk narrative. Initially brought out in 2010 on the 30th of November through the Pyr publishing imprint, it was the second novel to be released by Akers as an author. Combining Steampunk and Fantasy, it works to create its own immersive world, allowing the reader to fully explore and get lost in.
The Cult of Morgan was everything for Eva Forge, especially after being cast aside by both her family and parents. Now it seems that the Cult itself is falling apart, as new and more modern gods come into the light, and the deaths that have been happening lately only seek to hasten the cult’s demise. Heading to the City of Ash, Eva must now find the answers to what’s going on, and who is responsible for destroying her past. Will she be able to find them though? Can she save the future of the city in the process? What is the truth behind the Horns of Ruin?
