Author Tera Lynn Childs is a three time RITA award winner and best selling author of young adult novels. She has written the “Forgive My Fins” series, the “Oh. My. Gods.” series, the “Darkly Fae” series, the “City Chicks” series, and the “Sweet Venom” trilogy. Childs has also co-written many other book series as well.

She was born near Minneapolis, Minnesota, but did not stay there long because her parents are nomadic (as they are theater people). She started kindergarten in Montreal, and by then, she had already lived in Ohio, Colorado, and Indiana. The bulk of her elementary school life was spent in Sacramento and San Diego, California. She did make it back to Minneapolis briefly when she was in middle school, but then her family moved to Springfield, Missouri part way through.

For high school, they actually stayed in a single place for high school, she went to Kickapoo High School (Brad Pitt’s high school, but he is twelve years older and she does not know him). When she went to college, she transferred after just two years at Columbia University to University of Colorado at Boulder. She would get her degree in theater, of all things. She would get a masters degree from Columbia in Historic Preservation (which is one way of saying saving old buildings).

She finished that masters, and still was unsure of what to do with her life, and she began writing. In part, this is due to her beginning reading a lot of books. She would read one of her favorite romance author’s new books and she felt that is what she wanted to do for a living. It is a lot harder to write a novel than it is to read one, she found, and it took her awhile to get on the correct path.

Her fourth completed manuscript was the first novel that she had published, which was called “Oh. My. Gods.”.

She won RITAs in the following categories: National Readers’ Choice for Best First Book, Best Young Adult, and Best First Book.

Childs lives in Las Vegas and writes wherever there is a comfortable chair and where the caffeinated beverages are plenty. She is still quite nomadic, to this day, and has moved around quite a bit.

“Sweet Venom” is the first novel in the “Medusa Girls” series and was released in the year 2011. Grace has relocated to San Francisco and is eager to have a new start at her new school. It is a change that presents many new possibilities, at the same time, it is quite scary. A minotaur walking in makes things that much more scary, and a girl that looks like Grace turns up to take on the monster. That shocks Grace.

Gretchen is tired of being pulled out of bed by monsters, but has little choice in the matter. She has to send the minotaur back home, as it gives her another notch on her fighting belt. She certainly never imagined that she would find a young lady that would look just like her.

Greer has put her life together quite nicely, thank you for asking. Two girls show up and tilts her life for her, and they claim that the three are actually triplets. They are some kind of supernatural descendants of a hideous creature that comes from Greek myth, and their destiny is to keep hunting monsters.

Fans of the novel enjoyed this unique and different take on super heroes and mythological creatures. This was such a fun read; there is loads of action, emotions, and humor. This is a wonderful series to follow, and will be interesting to see what happens next.

“Sweet Shadows” is the second novel in the “Medusa Girls” series and was released in the year 2012. The gods of Olympus are coming during their war, and creatures from the Abyss are coming into San Francisco. The boys in their lives are holding back some dangerous secrets.

Gretchen has been fighting the monsters off the longest, and trains her sisters, which she has just found. She may have known about her and her sister’s lineage before them. Will she be able to even trust them, let alone train them? Greer is a perfectionist and keeps up on being social. She has visions that make her faint, and the visions do not leave her the hell alone. Grace is a compromiser and worrying about missing Thane, her brother; not only that, but why he went missing and what he is hiding.

Fans of the novel find that they have grown to love these three great girls. Some enjoyed finding out what happened next in the series, and hope that the next book is able to conclude things as well as was developed here.

“Sweet Legacy” is the third novel in the “Medusa Girls” series and was released in the year 2013. Grace has known for awhile that she had a lot of privileges, but did not realize that her second sight made her quite special. Even with her two monster fighter sisters. A god starts messing with her mind, will she be able to keep her sisters’ mission on the right track?

Grace loves Thane, her adopted brother, but it is clear that his past has a lot of mysteries in it, now that he has joined her sisters’ team. She would like nothing more than to trust him, but is his secret going to put them more in danger?

Gretchen knows that she can count on her sisters to assist her to help keep the monsters at bay. She finds out, however, that huntress is a big role with many responsibilities; something she learned after getting to know some of the creatures in the abyss. Is she going to be able to know what her duties are now?

They have to keep on going, as they search for the lost door between realms. All the while, gods and monsters come down on San Francisco, ready for battle.

Fans of the novel enjoyed the nice end this was to a good trilogy. Readers were glad they took a chance on this great trilogy. It is a great novel from a stellar author. Things are wrapped up, good characters, strong action, and there is even some romance to be had in this one.
