Svetlana Chmakova
Svetlana Chmakova was born October 7, 1979 in Russia where she was first exposed to comics once she found ElfQuest at a Moscow book stand. After emigrating to Canada when she was sixteen, she graduated from the Sheridan College Classical Animation program in the year 2002 with a Classical Animation diploma. Then she started publishing her manga on the Internet.

Accidentally she became a full time writer and artist, and has written and drawn for how-to-draw books, animation, toy designs, and most of all, manga and comics. Thousands and thousands of drawings for manga and comics.

Along with producing many manga series, she was a Master Comics Artist-in-Residence at Atlantic Center for The Arts and was a featured artist for the US wide 2011 “You Are Here” Collaborative Summer Library Program. To this day, she is a still a skillful shirker of her deadlines.

Svetlana’s hobbies include sleeping, eating, buying way more books than she’s got the shelf space for, and riding the subway during the middle of the day, when it is half empty, and half-full of some Very Interesting People.

Dramacon was nominated for an Eisner Award in the year 2007. Nightschool won the Dragon Award for Kids Comics at the Shuster Awards in the year 2010. Awkward was nominated for an Eisner Award, named as one of School Library Journal’s Top 10 Graphic Novels of 2015 and was named by YALSA on their list of the 201 Great Graphic Novels for Teens. It also won the 2nd Annual Dwayne McDuffie Award for Kids’ Comics and the Dragon Award for Kids Comics at the Shuster Awards.

“Dramacon Volume One” is the first novel in the “Dramacon” series and was released in the year 2005.When Christie, an amateur writer, settles into the artist alley of her very first anime convention, she sees it as a chance to promote the manga that she started with her artist boyfriend. However when she falls unexpectedly for a mysterious cosplayer, things get complicated.

What do you do when you love somebody that is going miles away from you in just a few days?

“Dramacon Volume 2” is the second novel in the “Dramacon” series and was released in the year 2006. It is Christie’s second year at the Yatta Anime convention, and the drama is still heating up. With Bethany, her new partner-in-crime and artiste extraordinaire, Christie’s promoting her comic again. Matt has also returned, however to Christie’s surprise, he has arrived with a girlfriend!

Now, not only does she have to fend off close-minded manga fans, she must also try keeping her heart clear of Matt. However in the twilight which separates friendship from something more, things oftentimes get a bit complicated. And at a convention anything is possible.

“Dramacon Volume 3” is the third novel in the “Dramacon” series and was released in the year 2007. People say that the best way to cure a crush on somebody is by getting to know them. Is Christie and Matt’s love going to survive their first “date”?

Bethany and Christie, now college students, are going to pimp their comic at the Yattacon, and Bethany’s glowing with pride since her designs are on every single T-shirt at this con. However while Christie is thrilled to be returning hanging out with all the wacky crows from Firebird Studios, one thing after another keeps her from getting together with Matt. Could it be that these two just aren’t destined to be together?

“Awkward” is the first novel in the “Berrybrook Middle School” series and was released in the year 2015. Cardinal rule for surviving school #1: Don’t get noticed by the mean kids.

Penelope “Peppi” Torres, on her first day at her new school, reminds herself of these basics. “Brave” is the second novel in the “Berrybrook Middle School” series and was released in the year 2017. Jensen, in his daydreams, is the biggest hero who ever was, saving the world as well as his friends on an everyday basis. However his middle school reality is quite different, since math is hard and getting along with his friends is tough. Even finding a partner for the class project is a big issue if you always are picked last.

And the pressure’s on even more when the school newspaper’s dynamic duo, Akilah and Jenny, draw him into the whirlwind of school news, social experiment projects, and the behind-the-scenes club drama.

Jensen has always played the middle school game a level at a time, however somebody’s cranked the difficulty setting all of a sudden. Are those daring daydreams of his finally going to work in his favor, or is he going to need to find some real solutions to his real life problems?

“Crush” is the third novel in the “Berrybrook Middle School” series and was released in the year 2018. Jorge seems like he’s got it all together. He is big enough that nobody messes with him all that much, however he is also just a genuinely sweet dude with a reliable and solid group of friends. The only time he ever feels off his game all that much is when he crosses paths with this one girl.

However when the group dynamic among the boys begins shifting, is he going to be able to balance what his buddies expect from him versus what he actually wants?
