About Susan Branch
The American author Susan Branch is very much an inspired writer, with a lot to say through her work and her stories. Crafting each and every one of her stories with both love and care, she manages to write straight from the heart in almost intimate manner. This makes for a style that is very direct, allowing the reader to feel as if she is speaking directly to them and them alone through her work. Not only that, but she writes in a clear and accessible manner too, thus also providing readers from all backgrounds and nationalities the chance to enjoy her work. With a lot more to come yet, she doesn’t show signs of stopping any time soon either, with her writing career continuing to grow rapidly from strength-to-strength.
Early and Personal Life
Born in Long Beach, California, in the United States, the future author to be Susan Branch would grow up with a keen passion for the written word. With a love of art and watercolor too, she would combine the two over the years, expressing herself both visually and through her words. This would allow her to craft a style and tone that was entirely unique to her, speaking and writing in a straightforward and direct manner.
Taking a lot of inspiration from her own life, Branch would manage to create a new style that idiosyncratic entirely to her. Creating travel and cookbooks too, she would write about subjects that interested her, providing her readers with a more informed set of books over the years. Currently living between Martha’s Vineyard and California, she continues to write regularly, putting out novels consistently, maintaining a strong presence both online and off.
Writing Career
Since 1995, Susan Branch has been sending out a monthly newsletter called ‘Willard’, which she regularly sends out to over 42,000 individuals. Becoming a highly prominent author, she largely writes from her own perspective, keeping readers informed on who she is and what she’s about. Along with this, she has also increased her profile through her art, which has been licensed to many different properties throughout the years.
Creating the much loved ‘Heart of the Home’ series of books, she writes them using her own hand-written typeface, along with her watercolors again. This turns each of her books into individual works of art almost, allowing them to practically leap off of the page for the reader. There’s plenty more titles planned on the horizon too, as she continues putting out work and winning awards, which she will carry on doing for a long time to come.
The Fairy Tale Girl
Working as part one of her three part memoir, this provides the opening to the series of memories of Susan Branch as an author. Compiling her diary which she has kept since her twenties, this was originally brought out in 2015 on the 15th of September, setting up the series as a whole. Originally released through the ‘Spring Street Publishing’ outlet, this would provide a far more personal novel for Branch as an author.
Writing from a very real place, this is a story that really manages to get to the heart of what it is that Susan Branch was feeling during her twenties. Taking the reader on a journey alongside her, she manages to convey a sense of both love and loss in equal measure, giving her audience the full range of human emotion. This works for what the story is trying to achieve, allowing narrative to really resonate regardless of the reader’s age or background. Using a highly evocative style of prose, Branch definitely manages to transport the reader, with her vivid and creative descriptions used throughout.
Starting out in California with a geranium colored house, it sees Susan Branch’s journey through the fifties and sixties, as it takes the reader back to the past. With traditional values imbued throughout, it takes the reader back to an almost magical time, as the author progresses through a variety of different emotions and events. Experiencing grief and sadness, as well as love and passion, it really manages to include everything, giving the reader the whole spectrum throughout. Featuring previous loves as well, it is sure to invest the reader for the duration, as Susan Branch comes to find who she is and what she wants from life. Will she manage to find true happiness for herself? Can she ever hope to find love too? What will become of the fairy tale girl?
Martha’s Vineyard, Isle of Dreams
Initially released through the ‘Spring Street Publishing’ outlet once more, this would be the second in the series of personal memoirs to come from Susan Branch. Following on from the last novel, this continues with the next chapter in her life, as it moves on to 1982 and what happened then. Coming out in 2016, it was published on the 1st of May, and was later followed up with the third book titled ‘A Fine Romance’.
Using illustrative watercolors that she’s created herself, Susan Branch once again delves into her past, taking the reader on a journey through her own history. Seeing how she has developed as a person, it contains many intriguing insights and observations, allowing the reader to invest themselves in her story. Painting a picture not just physically, but mentally as well, Branch manages to create a vivid portrait of the landscape of the time as well. This allows the reader to feel as if they’re really there, experiencing the past alongside her, and learning along with her too.
Essentially ‘running away’ following the breakup of her marriage at the age of thirty-four, Susan Branch heads of to Martha’s Vineyard. Taking place in 1982, this allows her to get some perspective on the situation, gaining a fresh outlook on life and who she is as a person. Whilst this was initially supposed to simply be a three-month sojourn of sorts in order to take some much needed time-out, Branch ends up buying a tiny one-bedroom cottage all the way out in the woods there. This then leads to the ultimate realization that she has ultimately moved over 3,000 miles away from everything and everybody she once knew. Will this be the start of a new life for her? Can she really start afresh in this new environment? What will become of her as she finds herself at Martha’s Vineyard, isle of dreams?
