Suncoast Society is a series of novels written by Tymber Dalton. The books fall strictly within the BDSM genre and follow the lives of people whose complicated experiences lead them into BDSM.
+The Story
The BDSM genre is very complicated. There is rarely any middle ground for the books that come out of that genre. Readers either love the authors or they hate them. Not only does it take a lot of skill to get a BDSM story right, it is very easy to get one wrong.
As such, most BDSM stories are generally ignored or discarded for failing to walk that fine line of appealing to the unique sensibilities of readers of the BDSM genre. Tymber Dalton’s Suncoast Society series isn’t fortunate enough to enjoy the complete adoration of audiences.
The author falls into that category of authors whose BDSM books are as hated as they are loved, with the intensity of those opinions varying with each book. The novels are supposed to follow the exploits of men and women living the BDSM lifestyle.
Tymber Dalton promises a cast of characters whose friendship blossoms because they hang out in the same BDSM club. However, most of the books are actually standalone. In fact, Tymber did not set out to write a series of BDSM novels.
She had a couple of ideas for stories set in the genre and she went about trying to tell those stories. The connections that started to emerge between them were fairly accidental, this including the fact that all the stories were set around Sarasota in Florida.
Tymber eventually committed to the idea of a series and the Suncoast Society series was born. Because the connections between the novels are tenuous, most of the books in the Suncoast Society series can be read as standalones.
A select few characters will cross over into one another’s novels from time to time, but such occurrences are rare and they do not necessarily prevent one from enjoying whichever random book they decide to read first.
As such, Tymber normally discourages her readers from worrying too much about the order of the Suncoast Society series, especially if they are new to her novels and do not know where to start. Even after deciding to formally categorize her stories under the Suncoast Society Banner, Tymber Dalton makes it a point to write each new novel in her series in such a way that it can be read by anyone who has no knowledge of prior Suncoast Society stories.
Of course, those audiences that can read these books in order are encouraged to do so. Having prior knowledge of the few threads that connect the Suncoast Society series can accentuate one’s enjoyment of future books.
Different Suncoast Society novels are designed to achieve different goals. Some books are written with BDSM enthusiasts in mind. They delve into the intricacies of the lifestyle in a manner that only those who indulge in BDSM will understand. They shine a light on every corner and shadow, never shying away from the positive and unsavory aspects of BDSM.
Some books are designed to appeal to readers who know nothing about BDSM. In those books, Tymber Dalton tends to use a more delicate hand, showing the softer and safer sides of BDSM and allowing her curious audience to understand why the lifestyle is so appealing. In some cases, the books act as guides, giving readers an idea of what they can expect to encounter if they ever decide to partake in the pleasures of BDSM.
Other books in the Suncoast Society series are not concerned about the knowledge and the experience of the reader. Rather, they are only concerned with telling stories of romance, with BDSM acting as a tool that throws a twist into the equation.
Tymber Dalton is always working hard to add variety to her series. That is the one compliment the author always elicits, the fact that her books keep trying new things. Some are soft and romantic.
Others are thrilling and exciting. You also have those books that aim to arouse with the intensely sexual nature of their contents.
And the characters never grow stale. Whether you are dealing with a husband and wife looking to survive the absence of their children by adding BDSM as a spice to their marriage, or you are following the exploits of a submissive in a BDSM relationship who must survive the sudden departure of her Dom, Tymber plays with all manner of dynamics in the couplings she creates.
+The Reluctant Dom
Kaden and his beloved wife Leah have enjoyed a relatively healthy BDSM lifestyle as Master and submissive. And now that Kaden is dying, he is determined to find his wife the perfect replacement master.
The only answer that comes to mind for Kaden is Seth, his best friend. After spending most of his life screwing up, Seth is more than ready to come through for Kaden during his time of need. Seth knows how to deliver physical pain. But he needs to learn to give emotional comfort to a woman he has loved for years in light of the loss of her husband and his best friend.
This novel might surprise a few people because it isn’t quite as kinky as some of the author’s other stories. What Tymber Dalton delivers is an emotional journey about a man who is approaching the end of his life and must find a way to ensure that his wife is cared for after he passes.
The sex isn’t the focus here, merely the tool through which certain aspects of the story are told.
+Pinch Me
Laura Spaulding is confused. After waking up in a hospital, she cannot remember anything, not even the vicious attack that put her in the hospital. Fortunately, she still feels an emotional connection to her fiancé.
Rob has his work cut out for him. It isn’t enough for him to win the love of his fiancée all over again. He must also remind her of her position as a slave in their BDSM relationship, this while keeping her safe from her stalker.
For Laura, regaining her identity becomes a struggle, even as bits and pieces of her memories begin flooding back to her. She must figure out if she wants to return to who she was before.
