Wanted Shopkeeper
Wanted Shopkeeper is the fourth novel in the Silverpines multi-author series. The story is set in Silverpines, Oregon, in 1899. Millie Messer is tired and overwhelmed with bringing up her children and operating the mercantile after her husband passed away during the earthquake.
As the dust starts to settle over the survivors of the devastated town, the crooks and those who take advantage of the weak begin to show themselves.
She adapts the lives of most desperate young widows and daughters and advertises for a mail-order husband. Millie hopes he’ll be perfect and become her helper and new father to her four children. Her decision to write the ad makes her nervous yet hopeful that she made the right decision.
Clay Cutler answers Millie’s ad for the mail-order husband. He has not only one secret but two. One will be uncovered after he steps off the train once it arrives in Silverpines. He hopes that Millie will not stop marrying him once she learns it.
He knew he was risking leaving some details about him in his correspondence letter. Once they get married, he is ready to keep the second secret to himself until he feels like revealing it.
As Millie is eagerly waiting for the train, she gets a lifetime shock when Clay steps out accompanied by his five children. The only thing she wanted was a husband who would hold the position of a shopkeeper, but now she has nine children in the family.
Clay plans to reveal the second secret to Millie after she learns to trust him. But with five children to take care of, the chances of trusting appear so thin already.
She worries that there will be a lot of meals to cook and laundry to be done. There are con artists, outlaws, and swindlers who’ve come to her town to take advantage. She also knows that Clay is hiding something from her.
Will a new husband and nine children be a burden for Millie? Will Clay’s secret prevent Millie from accepting him as her husband? Will this keep her safe from the people who want to hurt her? Is Clay the perfect man Millie wanted as a shopkeeper who will heal her heart?
Clay is ready to prove his worth to one weary, physical, and mentally exhausted woman who quickly appears to have great chemistry.
Even though the parents have their differences, they are charming and adapt quickly to the new situation. What follows is mischief and love and a nasty man who threatens the lives of an already blended family. As the story develops and becomes intense, the two families begin to unite and love one another.
Can a marriage of convenience develop into something more serious? Will Clay’s secret help the sheriff deal with the predators taking everything left?
It’s a sweet story about two families’ loss and healing journey. Wanted Shopkeeper is a beautiful story about how God’s plans may not turn out to be what one expected. It narrates a story about looking for help when one desperately needs it and finding love after a tragic loss.
It’s an inspirational story with characters that shine due to their love of God.
An Agent for Wilhelmina
An Agent for Wilhelmina is the second installment in The Pinkerton Matchmaker multi-author series. Wilhelmina Cutler has always wished to be a Pinkerton agent since she began living with her aunt and uncle, who was an agent.
Now she got a chance since the agency is hiring ladies in the Denver Pinkerton Detective agency. She has most of the skills required and is ready to do any task allocated once she becomes an agent.
Reece is a veteran agent who has always worked in the Denver branch since the Civil War. When his employer informs him that his future in the office requires him to marry a lady who’s also looking forward to becoming an agent, he almost loses hope.
He has never had a partner in his life and isn’t ready to look for one, especially now that he knows to keep his job, he has to look for some rookie who knows nothing about being a detective. The agency has decided to begin hiring women as agents so that they’ll be paired with male agents who will teach them how to do the tasks. The only issue is that they’ll have to marry their partner so that the women’s reputation won’t be ruined.
The wife she got seems to attract danger from all corners yet can deal with it. Reece doesn’t know that she had been training with her Pinkerton agent uncle, who taught her well. She’s aware of the trade trick, and she isn’t impressed with how Reece treated her. She is so polite and, other times, sarcastic, and she appears not to Like Reece so much.
Traveling to San Francisco to settle an insurance fraud case, Reece and Wilhelmina try coming together. She wants to convince Reece that she’s able to handle herself. All Reece wants is to keep Mina safe instead of letting her become part of their team
It doesn’t take long for her to stop letting him control all her abilities. When Reece attempted showing Mina how to shoot, she shows him that she already knows it, and it’s at that point, that he discovers that she’s ready for the job.
Can they successfully solve the case while working together, or will they carry their enmity to make everything possible?
Will they finally find out if the claim to an insurance agency is real or fraud by the Claimers? Can the two keep their marriage after they are back in Denver?
The character and the story are well developed to keep the readers engaged.
