+ Click to View all Anthologies Born on July 23, 1944 and author of over 100 novels involving romance and mystery, Sherryl Woods grew up in Arlington, Virginia, United States. She has written novels since 1982. She also resided in Florida, Ohio, and California over the years.
Currently, since she will never forget the place she grew up, she always makes time to visit Colonial Beach, Victoria, although she also lives in Key Biscayne, Florida. Sherryl Woods graduated a degree of Journalism of Ohio State University. She worked more than 10 years as a journalist, and most of the years, she was a television critic for newspapers in Florida and Ohio.
She also spent several years on coordinating a motivational program for 8,000 workers at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Most of Sherryl Woods’ novels are credited to her friends whom she knows while living in four states: Ohio, California, Florida, and Virginia.
Most of her novels are also based on the memories she went through while living in the states. She claimed that she could not live without her friends, since they are dear to her and reasons for her achievements. Her first book RESTORING LOVE was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy.
It was written under Suzanne Sherrill, a pseudonym of her real name. Her second book SAND CASTLES written by another pseudonym named Alexandra Kirk was published in 1983 by Bantam.
Later on, Woods decided to use her name when she was writing her Second Chance at Love series with seven (7) books at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she became a full-time writer and started her long career on her Silhouette Books with the first novel NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of showbiz and television that she covered for years.
Sherryl Woods wrote thirteen (13) mysteries – four (4) in the Molly DeWitt Series and nine (9) in the Amanda Roberts series. She is also an expert of writing romance novels, which she is very renowned for. She wrote over seventy (70) romances for Special Edition and Silhouette Desire. Sherryl loves to garden in her home when she is not writing, although she is not a maven on lawn mowing. She also loves baseball, theater, tennis, and ballet, although she lacks skills in dancing.
STYLE
The first time she sat down to write a book after graduated from Ohio State University, she had a hard time using her imagination and put it into words. She went through a writer’s block – a lack of pages of facts and quotes to use for her first book.
However, she eventually used her imagination and made it real through words with the help of her friend. She loves her characters because her heroes do exactly what she wants them to do so. And this is the best part of being an author, not a director, she implies. She has been making up all sorts of things, such as entire communities, storylines, and characters.
She likes to write stories that are based on reality. She wants her storylines and characters to resonate with her readers, because nothing can please her more than to hear from her readers that they have been through that similar scenario. This makes her happy. Though she plays words with her imagination, she ensures that more than half of the plot is relatable to the readers.
THE BACKUP PLAN (2005)
Belonging to the book series entitled Charleston Trilogy, THE BACKUP PLAN was published in 2005. It is the first book of the Charleston Trilogy. The story focuses on romance and childhood sweetheart. They had backup plan before when they were younger but because of her dreams to pursue her profession, she left him behind with their plans. Now, she returned home and planned to see Bobby; Cordell, brother of Bobby, objects to her plans because he knew it will not bring her good. Cordell has realistic ideas that he is the perfect man for Dinah and not his brother.
Eventually, Dinah fall for Cordell and the scars she had from her first love have healed. Will she ever go back to her profession and leave him behind like she did before with her childhood sweetheart? Or, will she stay with Cordell forever?

Maggie started to face challenges after she falls for her son’s baseball coach, Cal Maddox. For her, it is like the world is against their love. But in order to get serenity back once more, she has to please and convince everyone that Cal may be the only man in South Carolina who can help her find true love and serenity again.

I have been listening to the Sweet Magnolias (which I have actually finished) and the Chesapeake Shore series (which I’m almost finished with). And I would just like to say that the books are SO much better then what was on Netflix and Hallmark. Both series on TV left out so many characters, changed so many characters. I thought I liked the TV series, but I LOVE the books so much more. I’m very sad that there aren’t more!
Have a Blessed day!
These books seem right up my alley. However do these books have sexual connotations? I hope not.
I was born in DC just across the bridge from Arlington. My fathers people (and my father) go back many years in King George County, Va, right next door to Colonial Beach. I spent many wonderful years off and on in Colonial Beach. One of my cousins was a bartender on the pier. I am 86 now and living in Cape Coral, FL. I would love for you to write some more books located in Colonial Beach. Just keep writing the wonderful books that you do. Hopefully I will be around long enough to read a few more of them
