Thomas has also written several teleplays and TV movies for a number of networks such as VH1, CMT, MTV, Cartoon Network, ABC Family, and Nickelodeon. He is credited to have co-written the popular horror trilogy on MTV called My Super Psycho Sweet 16. For his dedicated work on author R.L. Stine’s Haunting Hour, Thomas was nominated for the Daytime Emmy award.
Author Thomas was born in Coffeyville, Kansas. He studied at the University of Kansas and obtained a degree in creative writing. As of today, Thomas resides in Los Angeles, California. He is happily married and is blessed with 2 daughters. Thomas’s wife and daughters are highly supportive of his work and are also his first critics. His first book, Kill Creek, revolves around a haunted house. It has a terrifying premise and ends with a shockingly brutal conclusion. Some prominent critics believe that this successful debut helped Thomas establish himself as a force to be reckoned with in the horror genre. Thomas was praised for his remarkable ability to build suspense and tension that kept the readers on the edge of their seats. Thomas says that he always dreamed of becoming a writer. While growing up in the small Coffeyville town, he wrote his first story when he was in only first grade. Seeing his interest in writing stories, his parents and teachers encouraged him to continue writing throughout his school days.
Thomas grew up reading horror stories and the genre automatically became his favorite one. After he obtained a degree in Film & English, Thomas immediately packed his bag and moved to Los Angeles. He had a straight mindset of working in the entertainment industry. Subsequently, he worked for different TV networks and spent 20 years of his life in this field. Thomas had never expected to get join kid’s TV, but the exposure has given him great learning experiences. These experiences helped him greatly when he switched over to writing horror novels. Thomas had written the first draft of his debut book around 10 years ago. But, he couldn’t get the right platform to get things going. It was only after he came across the Launch Pad Manuscript Competition that he decided to test his luck. Thomas was surprised to find out that people liked his work very much. His manuscript made it to the top 10 list of the competition and was noticed by Inkshares, which chose to publish it. Since the release of the book, Thomas has received an incredible response. He has described a story that resembles several personal aspects of his life.
When Thomas was writing the novel, he drew from his time growing up in his small hometown. He also tried to pay homage to the authors of the horror genre and filmmakers, who have inspired and influenced him as an author. Some of them include Stephen King, Peter Straub, Shirley Jackson, H.P. Lovecraft, John Carpenter, David Lynch, etc. Thomas loves stories that start in a grounded place and then goes on to infect ordinary people’s lives slowly. With his first novel, Thomas hopes to able to contribute to the Gothic tradition of America while telling a kick-ass, entertaining haunted house tale. Thomas thinks that the writing and editing processes of his first book have taught him a lot about his good and bad habits of writing. So, he was very much cautious while working on his second book. The voices of his editors and suggestions of other important people were at the back of his mind during the writing stage of the novel. Overall, Thomas has the same writing process: know his story from beginning to end, find a peaceful place to write, drink too much coffee, and try to finish pages as possible in a day.
Scott Thomas’s debut book is entitled ‘Kill Creek’. It was released in 2017 by the Inkshares publication. The main characters mentioned in the book are Sam McGarver, Daniel Slaughter, Sebastian Cole, TC Moore, Wainwright, Kate, etc., and the story takes place in the Finch House, located in the countryside of Kansas City. Initially, it is depicted that the Finch House lies at the far end of a dark road. It has been an abandoned, empty, and overgrown house for many years. When Sam McGarver visits this isolated house for the first time in several decades, its doors open for the first time in as many years. Something lurks in the shadows and waits anxiously to meet the new guest. Sam McGarver is introduced into the plot as a bestselling author of horror stories. He is asked to spend his Halloween night in the most infamous house of the country, the Finch House.
Sam seems reluctant at first, but agrees later with the hope that the experience will provide him some material to work on his next horror story. Sam McGarver is not sent alone in the abandoned house. He is joined by three other well-known authors of the horror genre. All these authors, including Sam McGarver, are known to have helped shape the modern horror scene. As soon as the authors enter the house, the small publicity stunt turns into a nightmare for them. They are forced to fight for their survival as a deadly entity starts following them. It threatens and torments them and gives them the haunted experience that none of them could have ever imagined. The writing of this novel is quite vivid in description and dialogues. It seemed quite true to the readers and gave them a good horror story to read. The readers also loved the mix of complex & interesting characters that continued to entertain them from start to end. On the whole, this book is an interesting one to read and enjoy a good horror story.
