Sarah Painter is a renowned Scottish author of paranormal, fantasy, fiction, urban fantasy, mystery, and suspense stories. She has penned several bestselling novels in her career, including The Language of Spells. Painter is particularly well known for writing the popular book series called Crow Investigations. Over the course of her career, Painter has penned ‘book club’ fiction containing historical elements and atmospheric settings. In one of her novels called The Lost Girls, Painter has described a twisty and wonderfully dark supernatural thriller story. Whenever Painter achieves success with one particular genre, she finds it difficult to continue with it and so, she moves on to try her hand at a different genre. Painter believes the reason behind such a behavior is that she likes challenges and being stuck with one genre doesn’t really seem much of a challenge to her.

Prior to beginning her writing career, Painter was involved in working as a freelance journalist for a magazine. She has also worked as an editor and blogger. Currently, she enjoys being an author and spends most of her time trying to manage it with her other full-time career, motherhood. As of today, Painter resides in rural Scotland. She is happily married and lives with her lovely children and loving husband. Painter loves tea very much. As a reader, she likes Josh Whedon’s work a lot and keeps herself immersed in his books in her free time. Author Painter owns two websites, one of which is in her own name and is related to her writing and publishing interests. Her other website, www.worriedwriter.com, is used to podcast about writing. This site also features interviews of creative people and other authors hosted by Painter.

The author is represented by a literary agent named Sallyanne Sweeney, whom she refers to as Agent Fabulous, at Mulcahy Associates. While growing up, Painter had the fear of many things, including failure, success, etc. This prevented her from working towards achieving her dream of becoming a writer of fiction for a long time. It was not before Painter turned 30 and became the mother of her second child that she was able to make the first attempt at writing a novel for publishing. She managed to overcome her fears, defeated anxiety, and ended up completing the manuscript of her debut book. Since then, she has not looked back and has enjoyed the overall process of writing.

Painter loves being a part of the publishing world and takes great pride in being a noteworthy author. However, the path of success did not come easily to her. It was filled with many hardships during the earlier days of her journey. After writing four books during a period of seven years, Painter managed to bag a publishing deal with the Carina UK publication. In between, she also succeeded in completing her master’s degree in creative writing. Nowadays, Painter spends her day time in the writing shed owned by her and making up stuffs that go on to take the shape of interesting novels. She also tries to help aspiring authors overcome self-doubt and procrastination, and thinks of it as a ‘payback’ for all the support, advice, and help she has received from others over the years.

Author Painter loves to interact with her fans through her website and other online platforms. She takes all their suggestions and requests seriously and works on them with full sincerity. Many noteworthy critics have shown their support for her work by praising her books in various literary journals and magazines. Painter has also received support from a number of her fellow writers. This has motivated her to keep writing exciting books. She hopes to achieve much more success and popularity in the coming years and make her readers happy with a lot of new interesting novels in the future.

The Crow Investigations series written by author Sarah Painter began in 2018. It gets its name from the chief protagonist depicted in the books, Lydia Crow. Author Painter has set the novels in London and has mentioned other essential characters in the form of Maddie Crow, DCI Fleet, Uncle Charlie, Paul Fox, Maria Silver, Alejandro Silver, and the members of the Pearl family, Silver family, Crow family, and the Fox family. The debut book of this urban fantasy/mystery series is entitled ‘The Night Raven’. It was released by the Siskin Press Ltd publication in 2018. The novel opens by introducing Lydia Crow as a woman who has always known herself as being powerless, unlike her dodgy and infamous family. So, she began living independently and making her living by working as a private investigator in London.

When Lydia heads home for some work related to her profession, she is approached by the head of her family and asked for a favor. Soon after, Lydia Crow finds herself indulged in the investigation of the mysterious disappearance of one of her cousins named Maddie Crow. As she takes the investigation further, Lydia feels that she has landed herself in deep trouble. At first, she finds that there is a homicidal ghost living in her flat, then she has to endure the distinctly unprofessional behavior of DCI Fleet. And to make matters worse, tensions begin to rise between the old magical families in her hometown. The Crows were the rulers of the roost and it is believed that there still no other family stronger than them.

The Silvers are the best at lying and they are the owners of London’s finest law firm. The Fox family likes to do their business in secret and keep things to themselves, while the Pearl family is known to have been the best in sales. For around 75 years, these four families have not crossed paths with one another and respected the truce between them. But, Lydia fears that Maddie’s disappearance could break the truce and bring havoc to London through the hands of these four magical families.

The second volume of the series is known as ‘The Silver Mark’. It was published in 2019 by Siskin Press Limited. This book opens by mentioning the discovery of a man hanging from Blackfriars Bridge. Lydia is determined to improve her P.I. skills and sees this case as an excellent opportunity. She is also moved by the sense of bringing justice to victims. Lydia is not ready to give up the case despite knowing that the Silver family might have something to do with the innocent man’s death. Knowing their reputation as running the finest law agency in London, Lydia believes that the Silvers could make a person jump off a building by making him believe that he could fly. So, she begins to keep a close watch on the activities of the Silver family’s members. Everybody expects something from the determined private investigator. Her uncle wants her to rejoin the family and their infamous business, DCI Fleet wants to have a romantic relationship with her, the Silver family wants to keep her at a distance from their business, and the ghost in her flat wants to check her power. But, Lydia only wants to serve justice and solve cases.
