Middletide is the first novel from author Sarah Crouch. Atmospheric and intriguing, a small town ends up falling into a strange disquiet after a young doctor dies and the details of their passing are suspicious.
All of the clues are indicating that it could be the young man who did it, the one who is reclusive and left the community behind some time ago to go after his dreams in the big city. They say that he came back to get the first love that he had left behind.
In Point Orchards, a Puget Sound town that is fairly small, a death has occurred. It’s an otherwise calm morning, only disrupted by the fact that the dead body of Dr. Erin Landry has been discovered hanging from a tree.
The body is on the property of Elijah Leith, a failed writer. The Sheriff in these parts is Jim Godbout, and he starts looking into things. But what starts as an investigation that seems like a suicide could be different upon a closer look.
It seems that there are definitely signs of foul play, and the Sheriff only becomes more suspicious when he finds that the scene seems to be taken right out of the pages of a novel by Elijah Leith. Is this a mere coincidence, or is there something more to it?
Elijah is now 33 years old, and has come to back to his old childhood home for money and other reasons. He’s also intending to try and heal from his writing career that has never quite taken off. He’s been looking for purpose and puts his energy into restoring the same run down cabin that his father had left behind for him.
He’s also putting some effort into bringing his relationship with Nakita back to life. This is the girl who lived on the reservation close by. He may have betrayed her, but Elijah was never able to put her out of his mind.
When it seems like all of Point Orchards is starting to turn on him, Elijah finds that he’s got to fight to prove that he is innocent. All of this while up against an enemy that he never saw coming, the type that is skillful enough to frame him easily for murder.
Will he be able to prove that he isn’t the killer? Or have things already been set in motion that can’t be undone? Read this debut thriller from Sarah Crouch to find out!
