Ruth Reid is ECPA and CBA best-selling writer and a full-time pharmacist. She began her fascination for the Amish after skipping college classes to watch a barn raising. She wrote her debut novel, The Promise of an Angel, out of curiosity about the Amish barn raising.

A Miracle of Hope
A Miracle of Hope is the debut in the Amish Wonders Series. Pregnant and with no husband, Lindie Wyse feels she has run out of options and agrees to have an arranged marriage with her brother’s friend Josiah. Her Amish community has always shunned her for getting pregnant with no husband and, as a result, has lost hope for love. She didn’t know what she could do until her brother Eli came up with the arranged marriage plan.

Even though it wasn’t what she needed, she needs for a solution and, for once, thought God was opening a door for her. She knows she’ll be starting over in a new place with an older husband, but she’s ready to be a good wife and mother to Hannah, Josiah’s daughter. She’s a bad feeling about her pregnancy as she struggles to bond with her baby.

Josiah had a young family until his wife passed away, leaving him an eight-year-old deaf daughter. Even though she agreed to marry, he doesn’t believe he will ever love her again. Can they build a happy home without love, or will they need a miracle of Hope?

Lindie’s new life seems complicated since she cannot communicate with Hannah and feels uneasy around her husband. At first, she feels shy and doesn’t want to talk about her past and pregnancy situation. She’s overwhelmed with the challenges of being a newlywed. She also has to learn sign language and deal with the disgruntled child and her morning sickness.

Lindie’s also undergoing a challenge of faith as she tries to picture God’s plan for her and her unborn baby. Even though she tries to be an obedient and submissive wife, she doesn’t hesitate to speak her opinions when Hannah is involved. Can the two put their differences and fear aside and unite to raise their children while building a happy home.

She allows her instincts to guide her through life and her relationship with her stepdaughter. Hannah soon starts flourishing as Lindie takes care of her. On the other hand, Josiah is still mourning the death of his wife Caroline, and he never thought he would marry again but agrees to the marriage of convenience for the sake of Hannah.

In the middle of the increasing concern for Lindie’s health and her unborn baby, Josiah is shocked when he realizes he has started falling in love with her. He becomes so conflicted with his feelings for Lindie and loyalty to Caroline, and it’s time for him to figure out how to move forward with his new life.
The author shows how Josiah is caring, kind, and compassionate by taking a gentle approach with Lindie, as he’s careful when it comes to health. Even though he’s strict with how Hannah should be raised, he listens to Lindie and changes some of his viewpoints.

At first, Josiah is reluctant to accept his feeling for Lindie and finds it hard to feel the need for her while keeping his love for his first wife alive. As everything is becoming better for both Lindie and Josiah, unpredicted health issue threatens their relationship. More challenges came their way when they felt they had suffered enough heartache. The community comes together to give any assistance needed as they are going through it.

Even though Josiah has accepted their fate, Lindie’s faith doesn’t allow her to give up. Can the two remain together during the trying times, or will they give up on each other? The author has put together all the crucial elements while adding some complications that take faith and love to overcome to offer an emotional and heartfelt story.

A Miracle Hope is a written story about the power of hope in overcoming difficulties that one faces in life. The characters’ stories will keep you engaged, and you’ll feel sorry for them while cheering them at the same time.

The two main characters are complex and likable. Ruth Reid has done a great job setting the story in a contemporary Amish.

The Promise of an Angel
The Promise of an Angel is the debut in the Heaven On Earth series. Among the things Judith Fischer ever wanted was to marry someone from her community and have a family. She has been eagerly waiting for that day when her parents will permit Levi Plank to court her officially.

She has been in love with Levi Plank for a long time, and now that she has turned nineteen, she’s ready for him to start courting her.

Unfortunately, the day Judith hopes Levi asks for permission from her parents, her brother Samuel gets in an accident on her watch. She was supposed to be looking after him, and when he realizes no one is supervising her, Samuel climbs onto the barn’s roof, where he falls off, becoming paralyzed. As she rushes to help him, she sees a strange man helping him, whom she later thinks is an angel sent to his rescue.

After she shares the incident with her family and close friends, no one believes her, including Levi, who leaves her shocked.

Some days after the accident, the angel visits her bearing some information that may lead her through the path of faith if she chooses to follow. The angel assures her that Samuel will be alright and when she informs the others, they think she’s lost her mind after the accident. Her community starts staying away from her, and only one person is ready to believe and stand with her, the bishop’s son, Andrew Lapp.

Can she stay strong, hoping that better things are in store for those who believe in God’s miracles? Can she convince the people to listen to her? Will Judith trust the angel’s message even when it means losing everything, including her family’s support?

It’s a story of how sometimes God makes those faithful to him wait till the time he’s ready to show his miracles. Judith had gone through tragedy while putting her faith in God. Judith’s character, innocence, strength, faith, and determination kept the story more touching and engaging.
