About Robin Wasserman
An American author, Robin Wasserman is well known for her Young Adult fiction, writing from a realistic and relatable perspective. This has proven to be hugely successful with her readers, as she writes about real issues that affect young people, whilst keeping it fun and entertaining. Her characters are also extremely well established too, as they keep the reader invested throughout, coming alive off of the page almost.
The manner in which Wasserman writes is also highly compelling, as it keeps her audience constantly turning the page. She has also been known to explore fantasy concepts and ideas too, with her rich and imaginatively drawn worlds, including science-fiction too. This has all led to her becoming a major figure to watch in the industry, as more and more discover her work everyday.
Early and Personal Life
Born on the 31st of May in 1978, Robin Wasserman would grow up just outside of Philadelphia in the United States. Growing up around fiction and literature, she would nurture her own passion for the craft, constantly creating and telling stories. This would develop over the years, as she’d go on to study at a higher level, constantly evolving and building her craft.
Going on to study at Harvard University, she’d graduate from there along with attending the UCLA as well. This would all give her the tools that she needed to continue, creating a name for herself, along with finding her own unique style. It would also lead the way into the world of publishing for her, giving her the stepping stone that she needed to continue.
Becoming an associate editor for a children’s book publisher, she would find a firm foothold within the industry. Over time she would begin to find her own voice here, building an approach to the genre that was quite unlike any other. Now serving on the faculty at the Mountainview Low-Residency MFA program, she currently works at Southern New Hampshire University.
Continuing to write regularly, she lives in Los Angeles, California, with a lot more novels to come in the near future. It is her many series that she’s also becoming well known for, as she carries on building on these over time as well. Not stopping anytime soon either, there’s a lot more books planned for her on the horizon, as she’s definitely a writer to watch.
Writing Career
Starting out in children’s fiction, Robin Wasserman would release the stand-alone title ‘Pizza Place Ghost’ back in 2002 for young readers. Whilst this would introduce her on to the literary scene for the first time, it would be in 2005 that she would begin two of her main series; ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ and ‘Unfabulous’. These would help establish her name for her, allowing her to become an internationally recognized Young Adult author. Relating to her reader in a manner quite unlike any other also helped, as she would reach out and speak to a worldwide audience.
Creating four series by herself, and one in collaboration with the writer Cassandra Clare, she would become a highly prolific author. Largely focusing on Young Adult literature, she’d become extremely well known for her ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ series of novels, which would also be made into a miniseries for the Lifetime Movie Network in 2010. Over the years she’s also contributed to various other series, along with numerous picture books, as well as receiving numerous awards including the 2012 Publisher’s Weekly, and the 2013 Booklist, making for a highly successful career so far.
Wrath
Originally published through the Simon Pulse publishing outlet, this would initially come out in 2006 on the 1st of July. Marking the third title in the ongoing ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ series of novels, it picks up from where the last left off, with another chapter in the lives of the teenagers. It also focuses on the sin of wrath this time, as the teenagers focus on revenge this time, with the story revolving around that.
Setting the story around the social politics of high-school, this looks at the various issues and temptations facing modern teenagers. The characters, already being firmly established in the previous two books, are well crafted here, as they’re given room to breathe in the story. With the location of Grace itself, it’s the perfect small-town setting for the action, allowing the drama of the story to be contained within.
Focusing on wrath and revenge this time, this title looks at the group of teenagers during high-school, as friendships form along with relationships. Revolving around the seven teenagers, it looks at their time in the small-town of Grace, as they spend their time in the bars, casino, and school of the town. Beth has stopped going out with Adam, downgrading her status in the social hierarchy of the school, whilst Miranda feels betrayed and swears revenge. Meanwhile Kaia is being stalked, and Reed doesn’t want to come in second place, as they’re all out for revenge. Where will their journey take them? Can they find what they’re looking for? What will become of their wrath?
Wired
Published through the Simon Pulse publishing house once more, this would be the third title in the ‘Cold Awakening’ science-fiction series. Following on from ‘Crashed’ in 2009, this would continue the story, in the series that was previously known as ‘Skinned’. Finishing off the trilogy, this was released in 2010 on the 14th of September, with an omnibus edition 2016 containing all three titles.
