Robert J. Thomas
Robert J. Thomas is a political author best known for his Jess Williams series. In 1990, this talented author was sworn as mayor for Westland City in Michigan. He stayed in office for twelve years, making him the longest-serving mayor in the region.
Thomas’s debut novel, How to Run for Local Office, was published when he was still in office. However, he only started working on the Jess Williams series after he retired. Thomas currently lives with his wife, Jill, in Mississippi.
The Reckoning
The Reckoning comes first in the Jess Williams series. This book introduces Jess Williams, who grew up in a loving family in Kansas. His adoptive parents treated him like their own, and the boy born in chaos saw a bright future ahead.
However, his life changes when ruthless outlaws murder his family. While no one seems keen to bring justice to his family, Jess vows to avenge their deaths.
He practices with his father’s Colt .45 every day until he becomes unbeatable in shooting.
By the time he leaves home, Jess is a highly skilled shootist whose only mission is to kill the three men who killed his family. The fact that he has a unique pistol and holster gives him an advantage over the ruthless men he will encounter on his quest.
Throughout this book, Jess will be on a shooting spree killing everyone who was somehow involved in his family’s killing. He will be going against seasoned killers, so things will get heated at certain times.
However, you will find it hard to put the book down, and with each challenge, you will be rooting for this determined young man. The heartbreaking part is that his birth father and brother were involved in his adoptive parents’ killings, and he was ready to eliminate them.
Jess’s character is well developed. The brief on his life helps you understand where he is coming from, so you sympathize with him even he turns into a killer. While he will injure more people on his quest for revenge, it is amazing how Jess remains protective of those he loves.
The rest of the cast is well developed, too, and the author has done a good job of describing the wild west and the outlaws who ruled it for many years.
One of the things that you will love about this story is how fair Jess fights. He is careful not to bring any harm to his friends, and he is generally kind to those who have not done him any harm.
While he ends a few lives, Jess is only looking to stop murderers who had been on the loose for far too long. You will also enjoy the pacing and the twists that come at the most unexpected time.
The story remains captivating to the last page, and the ending will leave you searching for the next book in the series.
The Reckoning is a great start to a captivating wild west story. There is a lot of action, and once Jess starts shooting the people who cross his path, the tension rises to exhilarating levels.
You will enjoy meeting Jess, learning about his life story, and supporting him in his quest for justice. This book is slightly over 300 pages, and you can gobble it in a sitting or two.
Sins of the Father
Sins of the Father comes third in the Jess Wiliams series. If you have read the first two books in this series, you know how Jess found his strange yet famous gun. In the first two books, this young man has been confronting his ghosts and dealing with the men who killed his adoptive parents.
His birth father, Eddie Sloan, is among these men, and after searching for him for two years, Jess finally has him in sight. However, thanks to a desperate call from a friend, Jess has to abandon his mission and head to Timber, Texas, where a bloody war between cattle barons is going on.
Rance Madden has hired guns who have been harassing Marshall Frank’s team. When Rance’s men start dying one after another, he has no idea how much trouble is coming to his doorstep.
However, the ruthless killer can feel the death grip tightening his throat, and there is no telling when his day will come.
Will Jess eliminate this ruthless man once and for all? What happens when everyone discovers that he is involved in the strange killings?
Once again, the author takes you on an action-filled adventure to the wild west, where ruthless murderers run the show. However, a young man is bringing order into the lawless land by eliminating these heartless individuals one by one.
On these pages, you will meet Gray and Sharps, the two horses who follow Jess everywhere he goes. You will also meet Shadow, the wolf who always appears whenever Jess is in trouble.
Just like books 1 and 2, this third installment comes with a great plot, loads of actions, and characters that will stay in your mind long after you have finished reading. Jess’s skill with the gun is improving by the day, and he is no longer afraid to confront the evil men surrounding him.
It is sweet how the protagonist abandons his mission when his friend calls for help. While Jess had turned into a killer, just like his father, his actions were justifiable, and you will be rooting for him to the last page.
When called to help, Jess doesn’t hesitate and immediately goes to this town. His shooting skills will come in handy, but defeating the outlaws will not be easy, even with his expertise.
However, you can be sure that you are going to enjoy every bit of this wild ride.
Sins of the Father is a perfect read if you enjoy western stories. This book is a bit complex than the first two because Jess will be confronting an even bigger problem. However, the storyline remains as intriguing as in the first two installments.
A small town in Texas is under siege with Jess’s friend in the middle of all this mess.
