Franklin Robert (1933-1990) was an American author of Fantasy and Science Fiction novels. He is famously known for his Horseclans novels which he wrote under the name Robert Adams, a short form of his full name.
Adams is among the first writers to venture into the post-holocaust novel. The Horseclans novels are the predecessors to a lot of current trials of this genre of story. Many of today’s books do not bring out the diligent, detailed view of the world or the plot that Adams could hatch but still make it very easy to follow. Most of his Horseclans books are intertwined, and they only bring out meaning when they are read in chronological order.
The benchmark to Adams writing style included a focus on nonstop action, violence, vivid depictions of historical and military realms and a focus on themes from libertarian and conservative viewpoints.
His Horseclans books are majorly based on the ways of the people who originate from the Sea of Grass. The people are known as the Horseclans and are nomads by nature. He paints the Horseclans as strong but noble people who often have the gifts of telepathy. Their talents are essential tools when it comes to dealing with their horses and their cats. They have strange cats that have been brought back through science from the years before the nuclear war.
A Cat of Silvery Hue
Time is the healer and conqueror of all. In a distant future far from now, in the lands that were once known as the United States of America, all that is left are the many tribes scattered over the areas. The city-states have Ehleenee, a dissolute believer of an ancient cult as their ruler.
Then there is a Lord Millo, a 20th-century mutant who has the gift of immortality. Undying Lord Milo is the leader of the Horseclans, and under his leadership, the men of the Horseclans are slowly but surely bringing together the continent by the power of their swords and the strength of their dreams. These dreams have led and guided them into an absolute religious war of conquest. Lord Milo has every intention to overcome these fanatical outlaws, but to achieve that he must call upon his very best men; Bili Morguhn, a warrior who has mastered his skills with the ax, the sword and an expert in mind control. All this attributes put together make him a natural clan leader and Lord Milo understands that he requires all the help he can get from such a man if he is to succeed in his quest.
Can Lord Milo hope to be able to control the situation of the Ehleenee rebels and save the world from getting destroyed in their hands?
The Seven Magical Jewels of Ireland
Bass Foster, a 20th century American is sent back in time to the days of King Arthur III, a time when shield, armor, and swords were the weapons of war. He is welcomed into a land where people view him as a god sent to save them from their nemesis. The people are happy with his arrival and chose him to be command forces both in the land and sea. He is to command warriors fighting to preserve King Arthur III, and his kingdom against the Church army determined to replace the King Arthur with his nephew.
Apparently, Bass discovers that he is not the only time traveler, the people who sent exiled him back in time also brought with other unexpected visitors to the land of shining armor resulting in the opening of the gateway in the far future. Moreover, soon Bass, the king, and their allies fight the new breed of lethal adversaries seeking not only to destroy and overthrow the king but also to enslave everyone in this ancient world.
“……….Jewels of Ireland” is the second novel in Castways in Time series and a great second installment in the series. The author uses the idea of time travel into the past, during the reign of King Arthur. There is a vivid description of the historical time, the people way of life, how the battles were fought during these times. If you love novels about time travel, medieval Europe, then Castways in Time series is ideal for you. The author does an excellent job of showcasing the adventures and the troubles of this cast of modern people sent back in time and how their arrival affected history.
The Stairway to Forever
The Stairway to Forever is the first novel in Stairway to Forever series by Robert Adams. The story introduces the main character, a man named Fitzgilbert, also known as Fitz. At no one point can Fitz ‘Fitzgilbert’ claim that life was ever easy on him. To him life has been full of challenges; he has undergone through personal misfortunes, economic constraints and also survived in the battlefield. He goes to live in a dilapidated house that is oddly built on an earthen mound. As the sole occupant of the house, he discovers a passage hidden by a stone beneath the house. He decides to investigate the mysterious passageway, but his curiosity sends him on a freeway to another world.
The mysterious land appears deserted except for the weird beasts that crawl on the lines of the shore ‘sand world’. Surprisingly Fitz is not by himself in this strange and abandoned world. He gets a visit from an old friend who informs him that he has a mission in this mysterious world. To be able to succeed in his mission in the strange world, Fitz is supplied with companions. First of the companion is a Norman knight from the 11th century who’s transported to this world through powerful magic. The second companion is a 1950’s jazz musician who is trapped in the incredible new body.
Focused on a mission, Fitz, and his new companions will have to face and overcome incredible dangers if they are to accomplish the mission and ultimately reap great rewards. Their mission also becomes the root of their friendship. The Stairway to Forever is a brilliant fantasy novel; the character, plot development, and the storyline are accurate depictions of Adams creativity and approval that he is most celebrated fantasy writer of all time.
