Above All, Honor is the first novel in Honor series by Radclyffe. It’s a debut to a nine-volume series which features two complex, intriguing, and skilled female main characters. It revolves around a secret service team tasked with protecting the only daughter of the president of the United States. The new head of this team perceives it as a demotion from her previous high-profile position. The protectee’s tendency to evade her security detail adds a layer of challenge, which renders this assignment less desirable. The rationale behind assigning this particular secret service agent to the task becomes apparent as the narrative progresses. The adversaries are set for a remarkable showdown unaware of the impending storm. The story unfolds with seamless brilliance.
Cameron Roberts aka Cam is a high-level agent with a background in the investigative branch of the secret service. She’s transitioned to the protective branch. Cam immediately realizes her investigative skills are crucial for her new role especially with the many challenges and complex situations she must navigate.
On top of her professional demands, Cam has personal losses to deal with. She mourns the recent death of her lover and a serious injury to her leg. Despite these setbacks, Cam is extremely skilled. She’s even seen as a potential candidate for an assistant director position, though her lack of interest in office politics stand in her way. When Cam meets her new team, she immediately impresses them. Her second-in-command is particularly relieved because Cam’s leadership is about to bring major changes. From an outside perspective Cam is a remarkable character in every sense.
Meet the president’s daughter, Blair Allison Powell. She has lived under the public eye ever since her father’s tenure as Vice President and Governor of New York. Accustomed to constant surveillance, she has mastered the art of eluding her security detail with remarkable efficiency. Blair is also celebrated as a professional artist, her work acknowledged and managed by a prominent figure and longtime friend in the art world.
Although her personal life and relationships are an open secret among her circle, there is a concerted effort to shield this information from the press to avoid complicating her father’s high-profile position. But Blair does little to facilitate this privacy. This adds to the myriad challenges faced by the secret service assigned to her. Blair’s indomitable spirit and the dynamic tension between her and the main characters contribute to a fast-paced narrative.
Safe Harbor is the first novel in Provincetown Tales series. We are introduced to Reese as she transitions from a life in the military to become a sheriff in Provincetown. Her entire life has been defined by her military career, influenced heavily by her father, who raised her alone after her mother’s departure. Making friends or planning for the future were never her priorities. Her focus was always on her duties. She crosses paths with Victoria King, Provincetown’s doctor. Victoria isn’t one to socialize much or delve into conversations about her past. An ex-lover hurt her once, and a separate incident left her with an injury that destroyed her dreams.
Reese and Victoria find themselves drawn to each other despite their reserved nature. Circumstances keep bringing them together, fueling a desire in both to explore the connection they’re starting to feel. This unexpected attraction begins to open new possibilities for both women and challenges them to consider what they want from life and each other.
Radclyffe’s novels often feature an immediate spark between characters, and this story is no exception. It’s refreshing to watch Reese’s journey of self-discovery in Provincetown, aided by a new friend she meets. There’s more to her decision to move to Provincetown than she’s willing to acknowledge. This includes some personal motivations hidden just beneath the surface.
Victoria is a powerhouse in her own right. She’s dedicated to her work, perhaps too much, uses it as a shield to keep her distance from painful memories and other people. An injury has left her reliant on a cane, which adds a physical challenge to her emotional wounds.
The evolving relationship between Reese and Victoria is compelling. Their connection grows stronger, though their journey is marked by hesitation and uncertainties. Reese’s commitment to safeguard her community is admirable. She grapples with finding the balance between protecting the townsfolk and preserving the peace they cherish.
On the other hand, Brianna becomes a pivotal figure in Reese’s life. Reese steps in to assist Brianna with personal challenges which showcases her compassionate side. This subplot adds depth to Reese’s character, reveals her ability to care deeply for others beyond her duties as sheriff.
Both Reese and Victoria navigate their own complexities while being drawn into a mutual orbit. Their interactions hint at the possibility of healing and growth. As they confront their pasts and uncertainties about the future, their story becomes a testament to the power of connection and resilience. The setting of Provincetown, with its tight-knit community and scenic beauty, plays a crucial role in their journey, providing a setting that is both a refuge and a space for new beginnings.
