Rachel Hanna is a contemporary, chick lit, and romance novelist from north Georgia. The bestselling author is best known for her contemporary small town romances and women’s fiction peopled by Southern characters. Her emotional storylines and quirky characters have made her a favorite author in the genre. She has been married for more than two decades and has three adult children. She lives with her husband, two rescue dogs and a snotty cat that spends most of its time outdoors. She was born and still lives in Atlanta Georgia and does not think she will be moving out any time soon. While she loves the South and sets most of her novels in that setting, she would one day love to move closer to the sea. She dreams of getting a motor home and travelling across the US. She wrote “Second Chance” her debut novel in 2012 and has never looked back since. She now has more than twelve novels over several series as well as single standing titles.
Hanna has always wanted to become a journalist ever since she was seven. In school she loved the English class and subsequently got the best grades in the class. At home, she used to be fascinated watching the nightly news and especially Jessica Savitch. She decided to pursue that when she went to college and would later intern at places such as CNN. She loved being a journalist but she soon realized that she liked writing fiction more than reporting the news. She had always been a storyteller from childhood. As a child, she was constantly writing poems and short stories. As a third grader, Mrs. Hamm who was her favorite teacher told her that she would one day grow up to become an author. Sure enough, Rachel Hanna would become an author after graduating as a journalist from college. During her days, she had once done a feature story on her third grade teacher. She wrote it as some kind of thank you note for the role she played in leading her towards a career in writing.
As for her inspiration, Rachel Hanna gets it from all manner of places including news stories and the people she interacts with as she goes about her business. While she has never taken a story and made it into a novel, she often finds interesting elements in a story and then spins it into a section or scene in her many stories. Often, she bases these on questions such as what would it be if something like this or that happened. Her most interesting writing quirk is that she is a pantser. While many authors love to have character sketches and plot outlines before they begin writing, that is not for her. In fact, she believes that it destroys her creativity if she knows the ending to the story when she begins writing. As such, she will usually create everything as she writes and this has served her well so far as she has become an award winning and bestselling author.
Rachel Hanna’s “The Beach House” is the story of Julie who learns that her husband that she has been living with for more than two decades was not who she thought he was. She had quit her marriage and moved to an island in South Carolina to begin a new life. The last thing she expected is to be reunited with her estranged sister who has thrown her life away trying to be a yoga teacher. She also never expected to meet a gorgeous a stranger who helps her transform her expensive house that is in disrepair into one of the most beautiful in the area. She is soon living the life of her dreams but her husband returns to throw a spanner in the works. Will she have to help the man that had almost destroyed her life by breaking her heart? Maybe she could get away from his influence and finally live life on her own terms. With quirky characters, southern wit and charm, it is a great story that will have the reader engrossed from the first page to the last.
“Sunsets & Second Chances” by Rachel Hanna continues from where the debut novel of the series left off. Julie has had quite the upheaval but she is finally learning how to deal with everything that life throws at her. Her husband had cheated on her destroying their marriage. Nonetheless, she loves to believe she is living vicariously through her daughters who are very successful. Having moved to a South Carolina beach house, she had gotten a job at a bookstore and then started dating a neighbor. She is also living with her sister and despite her initial reservations; they are now forming a very strong bond. Her life seems to be finally back on the right track but then Colleen her favorite daughter comes home to announce her fiancé whom Julie believes is wrong for her. The novel tells a story of new love, healing, forgiveness and a little of reality. Dawson and Julie are getting closer to each other even as her daughter remains adamant that she knows what is good for her.
In Rachel Hanna’s “Fireflies & Family Ties,” Meg comes to see her mother at Seagrove Island. It does seem like she has left Europe after breaking up with her older boyfriend. Julie is sad to see her daughter depressed but is happy that the man she thought was bad for her was no longer in her life. Fortunately, Colleen her eldest daughter is working in Charleston for an attorney and is living close to town so that she can commute to work. This means that Meg now has room back at her mother’s house.

Is there a Book 8 in the South Carolina Sunsets Series? I have purchased alll the books prior to 8!
Yes there is 10 at this time
Hi, I have never read any of your books yet! I am a Texas gal, so I know I’d love your books. Is there any order or which series to begin with, or is each series a total separate? Do you have any books which have like 1,2,and 3 all in one book, or they all individual?
Thank you,
Gina Clark
Each series is separate.
I came across an excerpt of Beachhouse on my phone, of course it wouldn’t let me keep reading so I had to go and find it at the library. They only had the first two in the series, so I just ordered the rest online. They definitely get you hooked. I saw that you’re from North Georgia. Where exactly in north Georgia? I am from Habersham County, living in Lawrenceville right now
Thanks Debbie Hurst
