The Pet Rescue Mysteries series is a series of thriller,suspense, and mystery books written by one of the most prolific authors from The United States named Linda O Johnston. It is comprised of a total of 5 novels and 2 novellas, which were released between the years 2011 and 2014. All the books in this series follow the events in the life of the chief character named Lauren Vancouver, who is introduced in the series by author Johnston as an amateur sleuth. As a sleuth, Lauren prefers to solve the cases involving the pets and rescue them instead of solving the murder mysteries. In order to look after and take care of the rescued pets, she has formed a no-kill pet shelter called HotRescues, which is located to the north of LA, California. Author Johnston began writing the Pet Rescue Mystery series in the year 2011 and published its debut book titled Beaglemania in the same year.

One of the most popular books written in the Pet Rescue Mysteries series by author Linda O Johnston is titled as ‘Teacup Turbulence’. The Berkeley publication released the book as a mass market paperback edition in the year 2014. In the opening lines of the book, author Johnston has mentioned that Lauren Vancouver, who is the manager of the HotRescues animal shelter in Los Angeles, has a spot spot for the pets in need as well as an alert eye to the crimes related to them. The other main important character introduced in this book by Linda Johnston other than Lauren Vancouver is Teresa Kantrim. She also described as a pet rescuer and an animal shelter manager in the Midwest, just like Lauren Vancouver in Los Angeles, California. At the starting sequence of the novel, author Johnston has described a new line of dog collars in the form of faux jewelry called as HotPets Bling. This new dog collar jewelry company has a savvy advertisement campaign that features teacup puppies. The ad campaign becomes so popular that the adoption of small dogs begins to skyrocket throughout the city. In the meantime, Lauren Vancouver comes to know about an animal shelter located in the Midwest that gives shelter to many more toy puppies that it can actually accommodate. Therefore, she decides to arrange a private plane to go there and get all those toy dogs transported back to Los Angeles.

While doing so, Lauren had not thought that another rescue worker named Teresa Kantrim, who is the manager of the Midwest animal rescue shelter, would follow her during the transportation. Teresa has looked after and cared for all the dogs in her shelter since the day they were rescued and brought to her shelter. She does not seem to trust anyone from Los Angeles when the safety of her pet animals is concerned. Particularly for Lauren Vancouver, Teresa does not think that she will able to take over the job of caring for the pets from her. Teresa Kantrim does not seem to have control over her mouth and tends to give out some of the most biting comments to the persons she does not connect well with. This has not served her well as she had not been able to make any new friends for quite some time. Before the transportation of the pet could take place, Lauren learns that Teresa has been murdered and her dead body has been discovered from her shelter. Now, it is the time for Lauren to take up this murder mystery case and use her sleuthing abilities to solve it. She begins by digging into the past life of Teresa Kantrim in order to find some clues to get to her murderer. Lauren learns that she had more enemies than friends and so it becomes very difficult for her to find that one person who killed her. However, she seems to have full faith in herself and also seems pretty much determined. In the end, Lauren goes through a lot of twists and turns and finally becomes successful in nabbing the murderer. She also discovers the motive of the murderer behind killing Teresa Kantrim.

Another interesting mystery book written and published in the series by author Johnston is titled as ‘Chihuahua Chaos’. It was published in the year 2014 as a Kindle edition. The main characters in this story include Lauren Vancouver and Brittany Brandewyn. In the opening sequence of the book, it is shown that Lauren Vancouver has been looking after her HotRescues animal shelter very well as a chief administrator. She takes a personal interest in the health and well being of each and every pet animal in her shelter. On one occasion, Brittany Brandewyn shows up at her HotRescues animal shelter and starts crying for relinquishing her Chihuahua Kirbee forever. Lauren senses that something wrong and begins to think as to why Brittany suddenly changed her mind to give away her beloved Chihuahua forever. But, she is not able to reach to any conclusion. Later, she learns that one of the neighbors of Brittany has been murdered. The track record of this neighbor was not at all good and it also included dog abuse. All the evidences in the murder case point towards Brittany Brandewyn as the main culprit. Knowing that she is going to be arrested any time, Brittany gets worried about her Chihuahua. Therefore, she visits Lauren and asks her to take care of her Chihuahua Kirbee henceforth.

Lauren Vancouver thinks that Brittany might not be the killer and that she is getting framed in the crime that someone else has committed. As a result, she decided to dig into the matter with the help of her sleuthing abilities and try to find the real culprit. However, she wonders whether she will be able to find the killer before time runs out and Brittany Brandewyn and her Kirbee get separated forever. Author Johnston has written this book in the form of a novella, which was released by the Berkeley Prime Crime. This cozy mystery book is once again centered around the animal shelter of Lauren Vancouver, the HotRescues, in Los Angeles, as well a Lauren as the main protagonist. As is seen throughout the series, Lauren Vancouver would go never hesitate to go to extreme ends in order to save the cats and dogs in need. She also likes to make sure that the new home of the rescue pets remains wonderful and comfortable in every sense. In between, Lauren also takes up the jobs regarding the solving of murder mysteries, which again ends up in the betterment of her rescued pets in the end.
