Author Irene Radford has been writing stories since she first figured out what a pencil was for. Combining her love for Medieval history and a fascination with the paranormal, Irene concentrated on writing fantasy.
She is a native Oregonian that lives in Oregon, making her a member of an endangered species. Being a service brat, she lived in quite a few cities throughout the entire country before returning back to Oregon in time to graduate from Tigard High School.
She got a BA in history from Lewis and Clark College, where she met Tim, her husband. Historical research has stayed a lifelong passion and finally started to become a part of her job writing “Merlin’s Descendants” series of historical fantasy novels.
Irene was active for many years in Ballet du Lac, a semi-pro ballet company where she would teach ballet to youngsters in her local community school program. During this time, she also led a Cub Scout pack and often found her home to be the preferred playground in all the neighborhood for more kids than she thought possible.
Irene has had many full time and part time jobs from assistant curator of a museum to Insurance underwriter to clerk in a fabric store. Writing is her day job at this point.
When she is not making lace or writing, she also enjoys exploring the numerous museums and back roads found in the Pacific Northwest. She has published many magazine articles on the technique and history of lace making.
For “Guardian of the Freedom”, she took up fencing for research, figuring a quarter would be enough to give her a feel for a weapon in her hand and some vocabulary. This was not enough, though to write convincing duels or realistic battles fought on Ottoman frontier. She signed up for another quarter. Then another. She is now addicted and needs to add fencing into more of her stories and allow her subjects rang further afield.
Besides her own name, Radford writes under the names of Julia Verne St. John, C F Bentley, Phyllis Irene Radford, and P R Frost. He work is from the science fiction, fantasy, and urban fantasy genres.
Radford writes the “Dragon Nimbus” series, “Dragon Nimbus History” series, the “Children of the Dragon Nimbus” trilogy, “Confederated Star Systems” series, the “Tess Noncoire” series, the “Stargods” series, and “Merlin’s Descendants” series.
“The Silent Dragon” is the first novel in the “Children of the Dragon Nimbus” series, which was released in the year 2013. In a realm that is close to war, can an unsuspected heir to the Coronnan kingdom and to magic that has long been banished from the land be the only hope for survival?
Glenndon, who is the son of Brevelan the witchwoman and Jaylor (Senior Magician and Chancellor of the University of Magicians) has never spoken out loud. There is no need for him to because his telepathic talent is so strong and everybody that is associated with the University is able to hear him. Glenndon can throw master-level spells, but due to the fact he will not speak, Jaylor has refused to promote him to journeyman magician from apprentice. Everybody knows that it is still just a matter of time until Glenndon is going to take his rightful place at the University.
An urgent message arrives from King Darville. The Council of Provinces is close to rebellion because of the king’s lack of an heir. Rather than see Rosselinda, his fourteen year old daughter, married off just to buy an heir, he orders Glenndon, his illegitimate son, to Coronnan City to become his successor. It throws Glenndon’s whole world into chaos. The guy he always knew as his father really isn’t. Instead, he is really the son of the king. In a city where court politics can be deadly and magic is forbidden, the young guy has to hide his talents while he battles to find his voice and destiny.
One mistake could see Darville, Glenndon, and Rosselinda, even Jaylor doomed, because the lords as well as the people fear magic even more than potential invasion, civil war, and legendary monsters.
“The Broken Dragon” is the second novel in the “Children of the Dragon Nimbus” series, which was released in the year 2014. Glenndon has been established as the son of King Darville and heir to Coronnan’s throne. There is still a lot of unrest in the realm. Both old and new enemies still plot to overthrow the king and take control of dragon magic and Coronnan.
Even while attacks come from unexpected sources, Jaylor has to send his twin daughters on their journeymen missions, escorting a pair of noble women to their distant homes. Lillian and Valeria have never truly felt complete without each other, they are soon going to have to travel down separate paths to see these ladies home. Lily is robust and has got an affinity with plants and each of their healing properties, but does not have any recognized magical ability. Val has an unmatchable talent and has the imaginative powers to work magic in rather unusual ways, like Glenndon. Using magic costs the spell thrower physically and Val is frail and has to find solutions to issues without pulling too much on her talents.
They get caught up in a huge spell-created storm that spreads chaos from the middle of Coronnan City to the caravans that the girls are traveling with. Will the scattered kids of Brevelan and Jaylor be able to find ways to save the kingdom and their family?
“The Wandering Dragon” is the third novel in the “Children of the Dragon Nimbus” series, which was released in the year 2014. Lukan has finally achieved journeyman magician status, and now wants to escape from family, home, and the University Magicians. Needing some kind of goal, he focuses on finding and rescuing Master Robb, his mentor. Putting together a tiny band of friends to help him, he sets out only to find that while he can run from his family, he is unable to escape the problems that drove him away in the first place.
