About Michael Medved
The American commentator and writer Michael Medved is well known for his unique and intelligent opinions, which he has given regularly throughout the media. This can be seen through his regular contributions to a number of different outlets, given that he is consistently speaking on a number of different topics. Known as a film reviewer too, he is highly vocal about politics and pop culture, offering his learned opinion on both, having now amassed a worldwide audience of listeners and readers. Speaking up on talk radio as well as in print, he is known throughout the industry as an intelligent and reliable voice, with his articulate and incisive viewpoints. This has led him to where he is today, becoming a regular fixture on the talk radio circuit and in publishing, whilst also having paved the way for many to follow in his footsteps.
With a daily radio show titled ‘The Michael Medved Show’, he has a three hour platform on the radio, whereby he speaks about both politics and film. In his past he helped on various political campaigns, including many within the Democratic Party, which has provided with a lot of knowledge and experience. This is something that he continues to carry with him, allowing him to continue his position as one of the most educated figures in the field to this very day.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States, Michael Medved was born there on the 3rd of October in 1948. This would see him later move to San Diego in California at a young age as well, as his father was a defense contractor working at NASA and Convair. Over time he would go on to attend Palisades High School after his family once again moved, this time to Los Angeles in California.
Later he would go on to graduate with a B.A. honors in 1969, which was following his work on the Kennedy campaign, and saw him present at the then president’s assassination. Attending Yale and later Yale Law School he was well on his way to becoming a figure with a high reputation, giving a lot of weight behind his opinions. This would all lead to the writer and commentator that he currently is today, something which he continues from his family home in Seattle.
Writing Career
Starting out as a political speech-writer, Medved would begin his literary career writing for political figures such as Joseph Duffey. Largely working with Democratic Party candidates, he would find himself embarking on a career in the world of reporting as well, which would see him write a number of different books. This would also lead to him becoming a prominent film reviewer as well, speaking on a number of different shows, including that of Roger Ebert’s. Combining politics and art, he would speak on the two passionately over the years, whether it was live on-air or in print. Writing extensively on the subjects, he would manage to create a name for himself as one of the foremost leading voices within the industry, a reputation which he continues to maintain.
The 10 Big Lies About America
Initially brought out through the ‘Crown Forum’ publishing outlet, this would first come out in 2008 on the eighth of November. Released during later years of Michael Medved’s career, it would provide a solid and confident look at the subject matter that he presents. This would also be a stand-alone work, with it being a completely comprehensive and entirely self-contained non-fiction title.
Giving his readers a window into his mindset, this is one of the many non-fiction pieces to come from Michael Medved as a writer. Providing rebuttals, it would be one of many polemics from the author, allowing him to speak his mind on a number of different topics facing contemporary American society. It would also provide the reader with an alternative perspective on these different subjects, allowing them to gain a fresh look at them all. Focusing on American society, it really does cover a full range of different topics in great detail, allowing the reader to gain a larger view on it all.
Taking a look at what Michael Medved believes to be some of the biggest lies permeating throughout American culture to date, he here attempts to break them all down in greater detail. From perceived falsehoods to misinformation, he analyzes what it is about them that makes them so enduring, and how Americans have been led to believe them. Giving what he feels are the facts behind the lies, he attempts to lay out the truth in an accessible and simple manner for the reader. Hollywood vs. America
First published in 1992, this would be an earlier title published through the ‘Harper Perennial’ publishing label. Providing another non-fiction title, this would provide readers with an earlier look into his mindset at the time, giving them an understanding of how he has developed as a writer. It would also give them a look into his understanding of the film industry, along with the politics of it as well.
Looking at Hollywood, this would examine the state of the industry as he saw it, breaking down what he felt to be the problems inherent in their output. Seeking to spark debate, he takes an in-depth look at what he feels is the film industries attack on traditional American values. This then goes into what he sees as the many darker obsessions of Hollywood, and how they have affected American culture at large. Examining the subject matter of many different films, he provides further polemic on what he sees as the downfall of traditional values, whilst attempting to make sense of where this is all going. This has led to many various different discussions and will continue to do so for a number of years to come yet.
