Michael was born in 1948 in the United Kingdom. His father, Eric Dobbs, was a nurseryman. His mother was known as Eileen Dobbs. Michael went to the Hertford Grammar School, the Cheshunt School and finally to the Christ Church, Oxford. Upon graduation from Oxford, he then relocated to the U.S.A to study at the Tufts University. Work
Michael has held numerous jobs- some of which have earned him a place in history. He has been a newspaper writer, a political advisor, a businessman and even an author. He truly is a jack of all trades, and all his pursuits are characterized by excellence.
When he was studying at Tufts University, he used to write features for the Boston Globe. Upon his graduation, he moved back to the United Kingdom where he started working with the Conservative Party. He preferred to stay out of the limelight, choosing instead to be the voice in the background that influenced the politicians. Between 1977 and 1979, he served as a key advisor to the astute Margaret Thatcher.
He would go on to hold other influential titles, such as being a speechwriter, special adviser as well as chief of staff for the Conservative party. Michael is a shrewd and strategic thinker, and he is a treasured asset to the Conservative Party. Currently, he sits in The House of Lord as a peer, which is no mean accomplishment by any standards.
His brilliance is not only evident in the political scope. As a businessman, he held the position of Deputy Advertising Chairman in the giant advertising company, Saatchi & Saatchi, between 1983 and 1986. Between 1987 and 1988, he was the Director of World Wide Corporate Communications. In 1988, he became deputy Chairman of Saatchi, position that he held until 1991. As deputy chairman, he worked closely with Maurice Saatchi, who is a co- founder of the company. For the next few years, he primarily worked as a news writer for The Mail on the Sunday Paper.
Currently, Michael spends most of his time in Wiltshire as well as London. Michael is also involved in various charity activities. The most outstanding and touching one is when he undertook a long walk in a bid to support his neighbor, who got fatally during a rugby match.

Michael Dobbs Books
A house of Cards
This political masterpiece explores the lengths to which people will go in order to attain even the tiniest bit of power. The central character in the series, Francis Urquhart, is a power hungry, glory seeking bloodhound that will stop at nothing in the bid to become the country’s prime minister. He has leverage because he knows many dirty secrets about people, and he would not hesitate to use that leverage even though it would annihilate his opponents.
To counter the readers’ hatred for Francis, Michael creates a more benign character- a young lady by the name of Mattie Storin. She may be young and presumably naive, but she is also a relentless political correspondent. In her many efforts as a journalist, she stumbles upon information that could put top government officials in deep trouble. The information revolves around many financial corruption scandals, and she undergoes her most trying moment when she has to decide whether or not to reveal her findings. This series is captivating in every sense of the word; one has to admire the ingenuity of the author who created such a thrilling series.
A Ghost at the Door
This is another masterpiece that proves just how talented a writer Michael Dobbs is. The book revolves around the life of the successful Harry Jones. His life would have been perfect were it not for the fact that he has lingering questions about his father and his childhood. He therefore sets out on a mission to find out the truth about his late father, a man that he barely knew. But the truth turns out to be really ugly, and it haunts him every single day. He is horrified upon finding out that his whole life was based on a lie, that the childhood he thought he had was nothing but a falsehood. His findings reap him to shreds, and living with this truth turns out to be anything but easy.
Conclusion
Michael is one of the most legendary political writers of all time, and he has truly earned his place and fame as an author. His books will certainly far outlive his memory, as they are classics that will continue impacting on generations.
Dear Mr Dobbs,
Please forgive me for wring to you, but I so admire your books, in particular “Six Months in 1945”.
May I please suggest that you write a book on all the conferences between “The Big Three” during and after World War 2? I believe it would be a very fitting topic, another amazing book and it would suit your incredible writing style very well indeed.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Kim Rahbek
