Mercedes Lackey was born on June 24, 1950 and is an American author of fantasy novels. Lots of her trilogies and novels are inter-linked and set in and around the state of Valdemar. Lackey’s Valdemar novels outline complex embroidery of relations between the human and the non-human characters with many dissimilar cultures and social customs. Her other major world is much like our own, but includes covert populations of mages, vampires, elves, and other mythological beings. The Bedlam’s poet books portray a young man with the supremacy to work magic through music; Serrated Edge novels are about race car driving elves and Diana Tregarde thriller center on Wiccan who fights evil. Mercedes Lackey’s the acclaimed writer of more than fifty novels and various works of short creative writing. She is also a proficient lyricist and an approved Wild bird rehabilitator. Mercedes Lackey lives in Oklahoma with her spouse and regular collaborator, Larry Dixon, and their parrots.

Mercedes Lackey was born in Chicago. Her birth prevented her father from serving in the Korean War. Moreover, Mercedes Lackey places meeting science fiction at the age of eleven, when she picked up her father’s book of James H. Schmitz’s agent of Vega. She then started reading Andre’s Beast Master and the Lord of Thunder and went on reading all of Norton’s works. She noted with displeased amusement the difficulty of obtaining enough fascinating books from public libraries to quench her zeal for reading. She started writing for herself without real direction or intention until she was able to attend Purdue University. Mercedes Lackey graduated from the university in 1972, where she had taken a one-on-one English Literature Independent Studies class, with a lecturer who was a science fiction fan just as she. He helped her explore books she took pleasure in and then make use of that comprehension. Mercedes Lackey then came upon fan creative writing, which encouraged her brilliant writing. She then began publishing her work in science creative fanzines and was able to discover filk. She later had some filk lines published by the Off Centaur Publications.

Mercedes Lackey submitted a narrative to Sword and Sorceress, and then sold the rewrite tale to Fantasy Book Magazine. Additionally, Mercedes Lackey’s first sale was to Friends of Dark over. She met Cherryh, who slowly mentored her in writing of the series known as Arrows. During this instant, Marion Zimmer Bradley incorporated her short stories in an anthology; and Cherryh assisted Mercedes Lackey through seventeen rewrites of the Arrows series. She wrote so much that she had very little social life. She later divorced Tony Lackey, and finally married Larry Dixon. Despite getting her own set up as a fan creative writer, Mercedes Lackey and her agent sturdily forbade fan fiction based on her books for several years, whether distributed online or offline. Mercedes Lackey declared on her site that this was due to the Marion Zimmer Bradley fan narrative affair in 1992, when a supporter accused Bradley of copying their work, and demanded credit and payment. After a number of years, Mercedes Lackey’s policy allowed offline fanfic, but simply if the writer got a release document from Mercedes Lackey that said the writer accredited that they were using characters belonging to her and that the writer’s work basically became Mercedes Lackey’s property to stop infringing on her right of making a living from her own imagination. As of 2009, this rule appears to have altered per the writer’s official website, credited to Mercedes Lackey’s agent who became Cory Doctorow’s agent.

Mercedes Lackey lives with her companion, Larry Dixon, outside Tulsa, Oklahoma, in a strange house. She depicts it as a two and a half story concrete ground with octagonal wooden casings over it for making it look more like an ordinary house. The house is round with curved walls, which makes the position of the furniture very awkward. She and her husband, Dixon, have in the earlier period worked in the raptor rehabilitation. She regularly refers to her parrots as her feathered children. The after-words to some of Mercedes Lackey’s books refer to falconry and rehabilitation, and it’s apparent that this interest has predisposed and informed her fiction writing. She also takes pleasure in costuming, beadwork, and needlework. Mercedes Lackey claims to be a miserable housekeeper and an indifferent cook. Besides this, she does radar-readings during tornado seasons and helps to support the Alex Foundation as well. Mercedes Lackey is an active member in the ball-jointed Doll community. She owns a number of dolls, lots of which she has modified in the portrait of her characters.

Historically, Mercedes Lackey was an active member in filking society. She was one of the major contributors to an early book of space filk, minus ten and counting. She has won five Pegasus, more often than not for her songwriting. Moreover, Mercedes Lackey was also active in the society for creative anachronism, and fits in to the Great dark Horde. She is a participant in The Stellar Guild series that was published by Phoenix pick. The series couples bestselling writers like her with lesser recognized writers in science creative writing and fantasy to assist in providing extra visibility to them. Ritchie exposed herself to be a player of the massive multiplayer online role playing game city of Heroes along with her father-in-law and her husband. She exposed her personality on a player-owned debate to join the hard work to save the server from closing down.

Mercedes Lackey’s amazing book with the title, “Closer to Home: Book One of Herald Spy”, is one of her best and latest books. In the book, a character named Mags was once an imprisoned orphan who lived in a harsh life in mines, until the King’s own Herald discovered his ability and trained him as a secret agent. Now a Herald Spy in his own right at the recently established Heralds’ Collegiums, Mags has established an accommodating family, as well as his companion Dallen. Although usually a Herald in his opening year of Whites could be sent off on a circuit, Mags is required home for his ability to operate as a spy and his commanding Mindspeech endowment. There’s a secret, perfidious plot within the state court to wipe out the Heralds. The condition becomes dreadful after the life of Mags’ guide, King’s Own Nikolas, is endangered. Amily, who is his daughter, is chosen as a new King’s Own, a complex and treacherous job that’s made by this dangerous time. Mags and Amily try to save the Heralds, the court, and the Collegium!    I picked up Magic’s Pawn in High school back in the 90’s and have been in love with these books ever since. My mom was curious about what I was reading and fell in love with them also. books by Mercedes Lackey has been a whole family obsession ever since. My brother and I were ecstatic to see her latest trilogy “Beyond” “Into the West” and “Valdemar”

   Mercedes Lackey is my all time favorite author. I have almost every single book she wrote. Now I decided to listen to them on audible. Started with Magic’s Pawn. So looking forward to this new journey! Thanks you Mercedes! I have been a kid in a candy store reading your books over the last 25+ years!

   Mercedes did not write Bedlam Boyz, that was Ellen Beeman. The book Mercedes DID write was Bedlams Bard. Totally reasonable mistake with this volume of work. Fantastic website, thank you for doing all of this.
