Melissa Wright
Melissa Wright pens fantasy and YA novels which include the “Between Ink and Shadows” series and “The Frey Saga”.
When she isn’t busy writing, she can typically be found painting something from a book, talking with an author buddy about a book, or tucked between headphones listening to some book. It is sort of a theme.
She loves noble (if brooding) heroes, reasonable in unreasonable situations, slow burn and sweet kisses, a little magic, and a lot of havoc.
Melissa’s favorite part of being an author is the readers. Because half the fun of creating art in the first place is sharing it with other people. Knowing that your work is appreciated and how it affects people is at turns deeply gratifying and delightful. And pajamas at noon is a pretty good runner up.
“Frey” is the first novel in the “Frey Saga” series and was released in 2012. Nothing is as it appears.
Frey’s life is a lie. She does not recall being bound from magic. She never intended to learn this dangerous secret, to get tangled up in the business of the Council. But she did. And now she is on the run.
With help from a stranger, she finds a world that is beyond the elves that bound her. However it is a world of dark magic and shadows, a world that she has been warned not to trust. The farther that she strays, the more that she discovers a forgotten past. While fighting to reclaim her true identity, Council trackers hunt her down.
Should they find her, she will surely burn. The stranger offers her a way out, however it is a path of no return. How do you know who to believe when you’re unaware of who you even are?
“Bound by Prophecy” is the first novel in the “Descendants” series and was released in 2013. Aern, twenty-two years old, is finished watching his brother destroy the only thing that matters. He never wanted to take Morgan’s place on the council, nor did he ever want to rule their hidden world. However when the key to the prophecy is discovered, Brianna (a young girl) whom Morgan will destroy, Aern knows it’s time to take action. What he truly wants is for things to return to normal. However now he has kidnapped a girl, and his brother’s men are coming after him.
His one hope is to join up with the Division, however they’ve got plans of their own, and it is the very last thing that Aern is willing to do. Emily only wants her sister back. She does not care about any prophecy, or even know what is at stake here. However when she goes after Aern, the truth of the matter uncoils, and Brianna is not the only one that is in danger. All of a sudden, they are at the center of this secret war, and unless they can work together, they will both have this sacrifice that’s too huge to make.
“King of Ash and Bone” is the first novel in the “Shattered Realms” series and was released in 2015. Mackenzie Scott, when these flying monsters break through the veil into her world, has got nothing left to lose. Her future has disappeared, her brother’s been abducted, and all that remains is this desperate need for revenge. After finding the breach the creatures were able to use as their gateway, she plots to stop them, whatever the cost.
She finds this injured stranger out in the street, he may just be the key that she needs to succeed. What she does not yet know is that this stranger is not the helpless boy that he seems to be, and he has some plans of his own.
Mackenzie, having been thrown into this dying city in some other realm, is powerless to return. With the gateway closing, the clock’s not on her side. However this stranger is, and if they’re able to escape execution, this girl and her monster may just be able to save both of their worlds.
“Between Ink and Shadows” is the first novel in the “Between Ink and Shadows” series and was released in 2020. Blood debt accountants, magical contracts, and a lethal game. She will win back her freedom, even if she’s got to steal it.
Nimona Weston has this debt to pay. Her dad’s dealings with the dark society known as the Trust cost Nimona her own freedom. There is just one way out of the contract that’s on her life and that is to bide her time and pay the tithes. However when the Trust assigns her to this task in the king’s own castle, her freedom’s not the only thing she’ll risk.
Warrick Spencer has got a secret. As the king’s seneschal, he should be the very last soul in all of Inara to risk association with dark magic, however some long hidden ties to the Trust are much tougher to shed than just cutting the threads. When the Trust sends this thief to his rooms, Warrick believes that he has finally found a way to be rid of them permanently.
“Beyond the Filigree Wall” is the first novel in the “Rivenwilde” series and was released in 2022. A deadly secret, a dark curse. The ill-fated girl in the middle of both.
Antonetta Ostwind is close to getting everything she’s ever wanted. If everything goes according to plan, she will finish the fae, steal back what was stolen, and win the job she’s dreamed of ever since she was a little girl.
There is just one problem: Gideon Alexander. He holds the key to this highly coveted post. He’s excellent with a sword, and commands even the adoration of his beastly dog. He is living the life that Etta needs.
Gideon does not believe Etta should have any part of it. Matter of fact, he’s even planning to ensure she never does. And it’s a real issue, because if she cannot take her post as marshal, how can she get her vengeance and save this kingdom from the prince of the fae?
