Critics agree that a trip through the rich and chaotic world created by Greany will leave you breathless and asking for more; and it seems that Hollywood is answering the call with plans to bring the first film to the big screen.
Early Life
Many authors write about personal experiences, or about subjects with which they are familiar. The heavy military influence and sophisticated intelligence background information found in Greany’s work, would lead readers to believe that he has had at least some military or police training. He has none. In an interview with Mark Greany he said that after college he wanted to attend Officer Candidate School however he didn’t make it in to the program.
Without first- hand military experience, he makes accurate research a top priority. He keeps his weapons training up to date, shoots a variety of weapons on a regular basis, and owns most of the weapons that his characters use. He also has trained alongside military and police officers. Greany did not develop an interest in writing, until he took a class in international terrorism in college. It was in this class that he got an idea for a story, but a complete manuscript did not develop from this initial idea, or his next several ideas.
However, Greany credits these first ideas as seeds for the Gray Man series, which did not materialize for almost 20 years. Mark Greaney received a degree in International Relations and Political Science. Many readers applaud Greaney’s accuracy and realism within the Gray Man novels. Instead of reading about firearms, foreign countries, and the inner-workings of the Pentagon, to use as research for his books, Greany opted to experience the things he writes about first hand.
As a result, he has travelled to more than 15 countries around the world, trained with the military and police for firearm , close-range fighting techniques, and battlefield medicine. He has also visited a variety of intelligence agencies in Washington, D.C. and has spent time in the Pentagon.
Career
Mark Greaney dazzled the literary world with his freshman debut novel, The Gray Man in 2009. The book became a national bestseller and was nominated for a Barry Award in the Best Thriller category. On Target, was the next book in the Gray Man series. This novel was also nominated for a Barry Award in the best Thriller category.
Ballistic is the third installment of the Gray Man series. This book has also received grand reviews from notable publications including the New York Times which likened reading a Greaney book to “….playing the ultimate video game.” Mark Greaney’s fourth and final piece of the Gray Man series, Dead Eye, was released in December of 2013.
When he is not writing bestsellers on his own, Mark Greaney co-writes with other dynamic novelists. Greaney co-wrote the novels, Threat Vector and Locked On, with author Tom Clancy. Both novels made the New York Times #1 bestseller list. Greaney will also be releasing the novel, Command Authority with co-author Tom Clancy in December 2013 as well.
He credits Tom Clancy as a capable mentor and friend. He states that he has met so many interesting people while working on their projects. Being a co-author has also helped him become a better researcher and has helped him give his stories more depth.
The Gray Man Series
Mark Greaney has become known for his exciting, charming, and nail biting 4 part Gray Man series. The Gray Man series is based on the adventures of former CIA operative and international assassin, Court Gentry. His father was a SWAT team instructor and trained people in the art of weaponry.
When Court grew up he too became a weapons expert, until an unfortunate fight, landed him in prison. It is here that the CIA approached him. With no good alternatives, he agreed to join them. As a result, Gentry became the best killer the CIA had ever seen. Then Gentry is framed and a shoot on sight order is put on him. Now to earn a living, he is a gun for hire.
The Gray Man (2009)
Court Gentry is called The Gray Man. He is a legend in the intelligence community, doing the impossible, and fading into shadows. He never misses his target, but someone has now targeted him. Gentry is set up, made to look like a traitor. Now the very people who trained him, want him dead. Now he is forced to hide from the intelligence community while making a living as an assassin.
On Target (2010)
This book takes place four years after Court Gentry was betrayed by the CIA. Now he meets an old colleague who forces him to pursue a mission against his will. Now Gentry has to work with clients he can’t trust. Russian militants want him to kill Sudan’s President Abboud. The CIA wants him to kidnap Abboud and hand him over to America, in exchange for amnesty. Gentry treks into Sudan to find the President, unsure of his next move.
Television and Film Adaptations
A feature film of The Gray Man novel is currently in development with New Regency Pictures. Adam Cozad wrote the screenplay for the feature film, and also wrote the screenplay for the film, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, based on the Tom Clancy character, Jack Ryan. There has not been an official statement on a release date for The Gray Man novel. In 2009, Mark Greaney introduced one of the most successful series in recent thriller history.
The Gray Man series has been called an intelligent and sexy read by some of the world’s most prestigious publications. Greaney credits the series’ success, along with the rest of his work, to serious research and collaboration with experts. Mark Greaney’s novels have been published in several languages. They are available for purchase in paperback, audio books, and ebooks.
Book Series In Order » Authors »
Mark Greaney is a brilliant story-teller and author and the Gray Man series definitely supports this widely cited compliment. I have only two more books to complete the series and I am reading other books in between to make the travails of Court Gentry last as long as possible. Mark, please continue to do what you do. You are a Rock Star!
Mark, I really appreciate the fact that you make Courtland Gentry have very honest and just principles. Also, that he has a heart, even though he is such a tough guy. I have 2 more of the Gray Man series to read… can’t wait. Thanks
Mark, I found you by reading some Tom Clancy books. I looked you up and am so glad I did. I read quite a bit and especially like the books that have the same characters in them. Yours are so well written I’m going to the library today to find more. I read the first 6 and look forward to my next adventure with Cortland. Thanks Mark for the wonderful entertainment. Bernadette

Love The Gray Man Series
I absolutely love the gray man books. Is there going to be any other books with gray man . Thank you
Grayman books are superb. I hope the author does not become saturated. Tom Wood has created another similar character named as VICTOR. Those books are equally unpudownables. !!!
Yes I love the Victor the Assassin series 🙂
great books all of them keep it up
Hi there…
Will you be adding this title/list at some point?
The publication is slated for July 5th, 2022.

Hi Paul – yep 🙂 We usually only add books 3 months in advance due to publication dates changing etc. So we added June books this month. But happy to add that one now 🙂
WOW! Just finished Sierra Six and it is the best. Now I want to go back and re-read the others. I especially liked the expanded character personalities…especially Hightower. Hopefully there will be more.
I’m looking forward to reading that one. I just started re-reading the series last year. Well worth it 🙂
Great series. If you like Gray Man, try Orphan X. Another great series.
Thanks Dianne – that is my favourite genre. I’ve read the first few Orphan X books. Loved the first one, but I really just lost interested halfway through the 2nd, and hated the third. Might give it another go at some point though 🙂
Will there be more Grey Man books written, they are very popular.
Yes. There is already one scheduled for 2022 as listed above.
