However, she also feels sad that she has not been able to find a perfect man in her life. On one occasion, Maggie finds her sister dead in her trendy Condo, who was missing for a long time. She sets herself in search of her niece, whom no one in her knew to even exist. During her search, Maggie Newberry comes across a man named Laurent Dernier, whom she suspects quite often to be leading her to the wrong way in the search of the girl. In the meantime, they also indulge themselves in solving murder mysteries all across France. Even though author Susan Kiernan-Lewis has used a number of French descriptions in the novel’s plot, she says that the readers are not required to the French language to enjoy the exciting mystery novel.
After staying away in France for some time, Maggie becomes desperate for finding something to do while being away from her job in Atlanta along with her support system over there. Therefore, she decides to write a cookbook in the French language for the readers in America. The fact that Maggie does not know how to cook only seems to be a small problem for her as she is now married to a famous cook, one who knows French too by being a citizen of France. However, her new husband named Laurent seems to have some other ideas about spending his free time. Due to the differences in their choices, Maggie and Laurent face a lot of difficulties in the very first year of their marriage. The difficulties tend to keep rising with the increasing number of people turning up dead in their proximity. As the toll of the dead bodies keeps rising, Maggie Newberry decides to drop the idea of writing a cookbook and joins her trustworthy sidekick named Grace for carrying out the sleuthing activities in the city of Arles. At the same time, the murder mysteries are also investigated by an incredibly smart and sexy French police officer. But, his activities seem to complicate the life of Maggie in all the possible ways.
