Madeline Baker was born in 1963. She was raised and lives in Southern Carlifonia, USA. She and her husband have three handsome boys who have graced their marriage. She loved horseback riding and watching movies on Saturdays back then when she was growing up. She also loved horses and would request to have them anytime she had an opportunity to do so. Much later on, she purchased one and named it Candy. She really does love animals as evidenced by her owning several fish, hamsters, dogs, birds, and of course the horse. She writes books classified under the contemporary romance and historical genres. Most of the plots of her books are set in USA featuring Sub-genres of Native Americans. Some of her books are written under the author name, Amanda Ashley. She still goes to the movies and even theaters when on break from writing. Madeline absolutely loves plays such as ‘Beauty and the Beast’, going out with her friend and collecting other memorabilia. She also loves to play with her grandchildren.
Madeline Baker’s Writing career
Her writing career began when her children were still young. She would put them to bed and write. She would also write when her husband left for work. Madeline never used to show the written books to anyone until one day she gave a friend to peruse one of her books. Her friend’s encouragement saw her send queries to writer’s market and 6 years later with numerous rejections, ‘Leisure Books’ bought one of her books. This single event marked the birth of her writing career. She wrote ‘Vampire Romance’ which was an anthology much later after having written many Westerns. The author, Amanda Ashley, was first introduced with her book titled ‘Embrace the Night.’ By 2003, her dream of writing for Harlequin came true when her book, ‘Dude Ranch Bride’ was published by them. The first book Madeline wrote was called ‘Restless Heart’
The book. ‘The Angel and the Outlaw’
This is a historical romance novel. In this book, J.T. Curtter is sentenced and is hung because he stole a horse. He meets Gideon, an angel, who gives him a year to mend his ways. She realizes that with his kind of background, he really had little chance to learn anything positive in life or to differentiate between good and bad. His mother died when he was very young and his father just left so he had no one to look up to as he was growing up.
The story’s plot changes to a different time setting where Cutter’s hanging is commemorated and a reenactment is done. Brandy hears someone groan at the place where the hanging reenactment took place. She reaches out to touch the supposedly lifeless body in the noose only for the noose to break allowing Cutter to fall down. Cutter steals a horse and takes Brandy hostage so that she does not alert anyone that he is still alive. Brandy is now the reluctant companion of an outlaw and she decides her kidnapper won’t have it easy with her in his company.
Cutter knows he has already violated the terms of his one year’s grace period within which he was to change. He had stolen a horse and kidnapped Brandy. He even stops at one town, and earns some cash to spend by cheating in a poker game. He needed the money badly so he could get as far away from the noose as possible. While passing through the lands of Native Americans, the two meet cutter’s relatives who seemingly care for him and some ancestors of Brandy. The reader is left to wonder if Cutter can actually change within a year, with Brandy’s encouragement and if the love between Cutter and Brandy can withstand their cultural differences. There is also one disturbing fact: Brandy is not from the present. She is a person of the future. What will transpire when the 1 year elapses?
These are the questions that the readers must ask themselves which should prompt them to read about this intriguing story and these seemingly contrasted characters. The story is as interesting as it is touching. Madeline details interesting tribal aspects of Native Americans which help to paint a picture that cannot be easily forgotten in the reader’s mind. The book piques the interest of just about anyone who loves to read about western and native American romantic stories.
The book, ‘Feather in the Wind’ (Time Travel no. 3)
This is a book written in English and was set in the Black Hills of South Dakota of the seventeenth century and Los Angeles of 1997. The book is also a historical romance novel. In this book, Susannah is the main character. She has likes, dislikes, habits and tastes that are so much like yours or mine. She also loves reading romance novels and fantasizes about her encounter with the man of her dreams. Susannah meets an old Indian in Orange county and is given a prayer feather which the Indian insists is hers. He also says that if she prayed with the feather, he dreams will be actualized.
Then the setting changes to the year 1870, in South Dakota. Susannah awakens up in a camp and sees Tata Sapa for the first time ever. He is serving a 3-year prison sentence with hard labor because he stole a cow in order to ensure his people had food. Tata recognizes Susannah because he had seen her 6 years previously, in a vision. Susannah on the other hand remembers him because she had bought a photograph during her time and Tata was the Indian in that photograph. Her nightly visits to him create a strong attraction between them and Susannah facilitates his escape.
The adventure begins when they both travel and make friends around Dakota including an elderly white couple. Susannah is not completely accepted when they go back to Black Wind’s tribe even if for a short while. The two end up getting married and living privately by a waterfall. Susannah teaches Black wind how to kiss just the same way white people do and he, on his part, learns quite enthusiastically. While this is happening, they attempt to bring peace among their people although they both face imprisonment together.
You need to sit down as a reader to find out what transpires in this story later on as regards prison and a possible hanging sentence for these two. The book has amazing characters exhibiting both good and bad character traits which are used to tell this story superbly with its winding twists and turns. It is an absolutely fantastic read.
