Louie Stowell
Louie Stowell writes books about gods, magic, and monsters, mainly. Louie would not rule out writing about murders, spaceships, or spies, either. The only books Louie promises not to write are ones about people that sit around chatting about their feelings.
Some of her favorite books when she was a child were this book about a vegetarian vampire titled “Vlad the Drac”, “Just William”, a space epic titled “Halo Jones”, “Lord of the Rings”. Louie loves comics of all sorts and fact books about the environment and space.
She used to write fact books, but it is a lot of work, to be honest, so she has just allowed the truth to slide on by and make things up now. You will get complaint letters from people if you ever say that Jupiter has got the wrong number of moons in a fact bookk, which is not all that fair, since they continue finding new moons, the cheats.
“Otherland” is the first stand alone novel and was released in 2021. Otherland is this dangerous magical underworld, a place where appearances can be deceiving and anything can truly happen. A world filled with vampires, gods, and fairies. It is also terrible.
When Rohan and Myra, lifelong friends, find that Shilpa (Rohan’s little sister) has just been stolen and taken to Otherland, the one way to rescue her is by taking part in this deadly game: three impossible challenges which were set by the Fairy Queen of Otherland. Win this game, and Myra and Rohan can go back home with Shilpa, however if they lose, they will be trapped in Otherland forever.
An action packed and darkly funny fantasy adventure, that is perfect for fans of “Coraline”, “Stranger Things”, “Malamander”, and “Pan’s Labyrinth”, written by the author of the highly acclaimed “Dragon in the Library” series.
“The Dragon in the Library” is the first novel in the “Dragon in the Library” series and was released in 2019. Kit has to use the magic of books in order to save the library, and its resident dragon, from this power hungry tycoon.
Kit Spencer hates reading. She would much rather be outside getting muddy and playing than be stuck inside with some book. However when Alita and Josh, her best friends, drag her off to the local library, Kit makes this incredible find: she is a wizard, and books are the key to her abilities.
Unfortunately, this greedy businessman wants to tear the beloved library down, and destroy all of its magic. Making things worse, there is this sleeping dragon hiding there, and if she is awakened, her wild power is going to wreak horrible havoc.
With help from a friendly dragon-dog hybrid called Dogon, Kit and her companions are going to have to find a way to save this dragon in the library, and possibly the world!
“Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good” is the first novel in the “Loki: A Bad God’s Guide” series and was released in 2022. Packed with cartoons and doodles, here’s the diary of Loki while he is trapped here on earth as a petulant eleven year old, and much worse, the annoying thunder god Thor’s there, as well.
After a prank too many, Loki (trickster god) has been banished down to earth to live as a kid. If he’s able to show moral improvement in just a month, he will be allowed to return to Asgard. And if he can’t? Eternity in this pit of angry snakes. Totally rude!
King Odin, to keep track of Loki’s progress, gives him a magical diary that Loki’s forced to confess the truth, even when this truth is just as ugly as a naked mole rat. Making things worse, Loki’s got to put up with an eleven year old Thor that tags along and makes him look bad. Loki’s not even allowed to use his incredible godly powers.
While Loki suffers the misery of school lunch, keeps watch for frost giant spies, and finds the magic of internet videos, is he going to finally learn to tell bad from good, tricks from trust, and enemies from friends?
“Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Taking the Blame” is the second novel in the “Loki: A Bad God’s Guide” series and was released in 2023. Thor’s hammer vanishes, and Loki is determined to prove that he’s innocent (for once).
Loki, a Norse god, records the lows and highs of living on Earth as an eleven year old in snarks, grumbles, and doodles in his enchanted diary. He may not have shown too much moral improvement thus far, however while Odin has give Loki another opportunity to prove himself worthy of Asgard. Earning everybody’s trust is not that easy, however. Thus far, Loki’s managed to make just one human friend, named Valerie, however is irritated now to learn that Valerie’s made another friend, named Georgina.
Then, at Thor’s birthday party (which is just a pointless moral ritual, although there’s cake, luckily), Mjolinr the magical hammer, gets stolen, and Loki’s the prime suspect. Can Loki track Thor’s hammer down, figure out who the real thief is, and clear his good name, or is jealousy over Valerie’s new buddy going to cloud his good judgment?
From disappointing parent-teacher conferences, dangerous Frost Giants, Loki’s riotously funny illustrated adventures continue.
“Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Ruling the World” is the third novel in the “Loki: A Bad God’s Guide” series and was released in 2023. Hyrrokkin and Heimdall abandon their “children” in order to go on holiday, Odin sends Baldur (which is Thor’s half-brother and god of making Loki look bad) to babysit them.
While Thor and Baldur bond, Loki efforts to prove that he’s good begin getting a little desperate. Loki, after the drama teacher has cast him as the villain in the school play, begins wondering whether or not there is any point in being good when everybody seems to be convinced of his villainy.
That is up until he finds this rather odd ring among the props and costumes. It is a ring that looks suspiciously like the cursed ring of Andvari, one which promises Loki the world if he only gives in to his darkest and deepest desires.
