The Twisted Tales series written by author Liz Braswell began in 2015 and comprised of 10 books up to 2020. This series is an anthology series and is based around the alternate ‘what-if’ spin-offs of the popular animated films of Disney. Braswell wrote this series in collaboration with Elizabeth Lim. Several important characters portrayed by Braswell and Lim in the books of the series include Jafar, Genie, Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, Princess Aurora, Belle, Beast, Captain Shang, Shan Yu, King Yama, Shishi, Diyu, Mulan, Ariel, Eric, Snow White, Evil Queen, Anna, Elsa, Wendy Darling, Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Cinderella, Grand Duke, Vivian, Alice, etc. An exciting novel of this series is called ‘As Old As Time’. It was released by Disney-Hyperion publication in 2016. Initially, it is mentioned that Belle is smart, restless, and resourceful. She wants to escape the poor town and make her life exciting by exploring the world. Her father is reluctant to move out of the cottage thinking that Belle’s mother might return.
Belle appears to be in the captivity of an angry, terrifying beast, but seems to be her primary thing to worry about. When she touches the enchanted rose of the Beast, intriguing images come to her mind. She also sees her mother, whom she thought she would never see. What seems strange is that her mother turns out to be the same Enchantress by whom the Beast was cursed. Belle looks confused and shocked. She asks the Beast to help her in unraveling the mystery about her mother and in the process, find out what happened to his family as well.
Another popular book of this fantasy series is called ‘Straight On Till Morning’. It was published by the Disney Press in February 2020. This book opens by introducing Wendy Darling as a 16-year-old girl, who lives a life that she never imagined. Her house has become empty after her brothers joined the school. Wendy has to attend dull parties, even though she doesn’t like it. Also, everyone thinks that she is too talkative. When she learns about the decision of her parents to make her an Irish governess and send her to the foreign land, Wendy wished things were different. The only escape that she has from her miserable and boring life is in writing stories about Never Land. She had met her hero, Peter Pan, in Never Land 4 years ago and still hopes that the magical home exists and he is waiting for her.
When Wendy gets an opportunity to visit Never Land on a pirate ship, she decides to utilize it. For this, the devil asks her to make a deal. When Wendy finally arrives in Never Land, she finds that it is not the place that she imagined in her dreams. She faces strange foes and unexpected dangers at every step. Captain Hook informs Wendy about the evil plans and other grave dangers to Never Land. The worry of Peter Pan’s safety forces Wendy to join hands with Captain Hook to save his lover and the world he lives in.
