About Lisa Preston
Writing crime and mystery thriller novels, the American author Lisa Preston is a writer who’s at the top of her genre. Fast becoming a household name for many, she has an immediate style that really grabs the reader in an instant and doesn’t let go. This has proven to be huge success for readers all over the world, as she definitely has a lot to say through her work. Creating a name for herself quite unlike any other, she is an expert of her craft, combining both suspense and intrigue in equal measure.
Prior to becoming a writer full-time, Lisa Preston worked as a paramedic for the fire department, as well as being a city based police officer. This would provide her with a great deal of insight when it came to writing, allowing her to draw heavily from her experiences during this time. Lending her work a great deal of authority, readers would come to appreciate her sense of authenticity, as the stories would really come alive. Bringing the readers in, she would immerse them within it all, really letting them fully invest themselves in her stories.
She has also previously written non-fiction work too, with books on animals mainly focusing on horse and dog care. Training them, she writes about her passion for animal care, once again with a clear sense of authority, confidence, and understanding. Appreciated by many fellow authors too, she has fast made a name for herself throughout the publishing industry, as she continues to build upon her profile. With a lot more to follow yet, she definitely has plenty more to say, as her writing career continues to grow from strength-to-strength.
Early and Personal Life:
Born in 1964, Lisa Preston was born and raised in Phoenix, moving through a number of towns in Arizona as a young child. She would later go on to live in California, before moving to Alaska as a young adult, whereby she would learn to mountain climb. This would lead to her taking expeditions across the south of America, climbing summits in Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador, whilst also going to Asia and Europe by herself.
Later this would provide her with plenty of material to draw from when writing, but not before going on to become a paramedic having learned plenty of first aid skills. Following this she would go on to work for the police department, working as a street officer, hostage negotiator, vice squad, detective, and sergeant. Finally she would mover to Evergreen State with her husband, where she began to write, which she continues to do to this present day.
Writing Career:
The first work of fiction Lisa Preston would bring out was the novel ‘Orchids and Stone’, which she would release back in 2016. Working as a stand-alone title, it was a mystery story, and would herald the arrival of a major new writing talent, following it up in 2017 with ‘The Measure of the Moon.’ This was also a mystery novel, as well as being a stand-alone again, but she would later move on to creating her first series in 2018.
Starting with ‘The Clincher,’ this would be the first in her ‘Horseshoer Mystery’ series of novels, all of which would feature the character of Rainy Dale as the lead. She’s also written non-fiction titles in the past to, one being a guide to horse nutrition in 2016, the other a guide on natural healing for animals, cats, horses, dogs in 2020. This would all pave the way to an exciting and interesting writing career, winning awards, as well as being a book club thriller writer, as she has a lot more to come still.
The Measure of the Moon
Published through the ‘Thomas & Mercer’ publishing label, this would initially come out on the 18th of April in 2017. Working as a stand-alone mystery thriller title, it provides a self-contained narrative, delivering a straightforward and intriguing premise. With a murky and atmospheric setting and ambiance, it’s an excellent example of its genre, really making the most of its premise.
Combining family drama with the crime thriller novel, this really works effectively on a number of different levels. The writing itself is also extremely fluid throughout, flowing effortlessly across the page, pulling the reader in. Looking at the nature of evil and its place in the world, it really manages to cover a whole range of different issues.
Falling from his horse in the wilderness, young Greer Donner is left to fend for himself at just eight years of age, but it’s during his long hike home he discovers a woman being near beaten to death by a man. Using his wits to prevent the attack, Greer Donner is left with the man’s threats ringing in his ears, having been told that the attacker will kill his family, leading to the boy retreating into himself from that day on. Meanwhile Gillian Trett is a photographer living in Seattle, as she’s attempting to put her traumatic childhood behind her, along with her failing marriage. That’s when she discovers a photograph from the Holocaust, one showing boy’s in the woods, and this leads Trett on a hunt to discover the truth, as her path collides with young Donner’s. Where will their path take them? Can they get to the bottom of it all? What is the true measure of the Moon?
Forging Fire
This would be the third title in the ‘Horseshoer Mystery’ series of novels, with it being released in 2020 on the 15th of September. Initially released through the Arcade Crimewise publishing label, it would feature another mystery involving the Horseshoer Rainy Dale. With its intriguing and clever use of atmosphere, it manage to evoke a dark ambiance in an interesting and compelling tale.
Looking to attend the Black Bluff bull sale over in California, Rainy Dale is prevented after being assaulted and her truck is stolen. That leads to her ending up on a ranch where everyone holds one secret or another, as she must discover the truth behind the mystery. Now it seems to be a matter of life and death too, as it appears she must get to the bottom of the case before it’s too late. Will she be able to discover the truth? Can she find what became of her truck? Who is really forging fire?
