Lisa Harris is an inspirational American author best known for her Christian fiction. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and went to school in Portland, Oregon. She got her degrees in Bible Studies and the Consumer Sciences from Harding University in 1991. Harris would then get married and spend the following five years training a team on planting churches in West Africa. In 1997, the couple moved back to the US and adopted a child. She wrote a lot during this intervening period including magazine articles, short stories, and devotionals. Her big break came in 2003 when one of her short fiction was included in the anthology “To Catch a Thief.” Her debut novel “Michaela’s Choice” was published in 2003 and was the first of the “Massachusetts Brides” series. Since then she has written more than thirty novels in the “Massachusetts Brides,” “Cozy Crumb Mystery,” “Mission Hope,” “Southern Crimes,” “Nikki Boyd Files,” “Agents Of Mercy Thriller” and “US Marshals” among several single standing novels. Lisa currently lives in Southern Africa and works as a church planter alongside her husband. Besides her faith, she loves to travel and has been to more than twenty countries in Africa, Europe, South America, and Asia.

Harris’s work has been heavily influenced by oral tradition, myths and fables as she comes from a storytelling background. She began writing as a fifth-grader when she penned “King’s Rescue,” a short story that was the winner of the Read Magazine Award. She had always loved Nancy Drew and saw herself growing up to become a detective or author. Growing up in church, she knew all about the stories of the Old and New Testament but was also exposed to the myths, fables and fairy tales that were told around a campfire or dining room table. It was a family that valued truth and words with the understanding that truth was not so straightforward and was often best explained through allegories. Many of the extended members of her family, particularly on her mother’s side were great reciters and memorizers of poems and excellent storytellers. From her father’s side there was much emphasis on wisdom and truth, and this informed her world view from very early on. She was read to and read a lot and in the process, she came to value and respect the differences in cultures and religions. Harris also had the privilege of a good education and a small loving town. In university, she found a lot of material to study and reimagine and she started taking the anger and grief and turning them into love and knowledge that she would translate into her fiction.

Lisa Harris started writing a few months after she came back to the States and they adopted their son. She thought it would be hard finding a job with no car and no money to find help and so she decided to become a homemaker. The child turned out to be a perfect and peaceful baby as he slept for much of the time, allowing her to do what she had always wanted. Her husband went to work while she stayed at home to take care of their new baby and write her novels. She had finished the manuscript for her first novella in a few months but it was not until 2003 that she sold it to Barbour. Harris has asserted that it took that long to get her first work published as she had a lot of doubt about whether she could make it. However, she has always defaulted to her Christian faith for strength when she felt like quitting. Moreover, most of her works are inspirational Christian fiction. Nonetheless, they usually include aspects of violence, danger, and crime though without the graphic crime descriptions you would find in something like a true-crime caper. She has said that she writes to hold up a mirror to society that is full of violence and evil. She then shows the other side of hope, justice, and redemption, even in the mid of terrible circumstances. Her faith has had a huge influence on her world view which is present in her novels. Her novels are thus about justice and hope for redemption and that even when we are broken, God will help us through it. They are also about faith and new joy that comes not from circumstances but knowing that there will come a day when all things will be made anew.

Lisa Harris’s “Michaela’s Choice” of the “Massachusetts Brides” series of novels is the story of Michaela Macintosh. As such, she is bewildered that she finds herself torn between the love of two men that could not be any more different. She had always counted upon the friendship of Philip Macintosh but then he fell in love with her and declares that he wants to be more than an empathetic brother in law. On the other side of the coin is a handsome widower named Eric Johnson that also happens to be a single father to six children. Michaela has fallen in love with his children while the man stirs something in her spirit and heart. But Michaela has to answer several critical questions: Would God prefer that she rekindles her heart with Eric or be safe with Philip? And could she have confused familiarity with love?

“Rebecca’s Heart” the second novel of the “Massachusetts Brides” series is about a woman named Rebecca. She just found out that she nearly made the biggest blunder of her life. She wants out and cancels everything and travels to Boston to start a new life. She finds a job in a fittings factory as a seamstress, where she believes she can get over the heartbreak. At the shop, she meets Luke Hutton, He is set to go on the high seas one last time before he can come back and fulfill his dream of building ocean-going vessels. He passed by the shop to get something for his mother and immediately notices the dark-haired seamstress. Can Luke and Rebecca share the deep secrets that are a threat to the promise of happiness? Will Rebecca love Luke as well as God? It is a stirring love story with some great Christian lessons.

Lisa Harris’s “Adam’s Bride” is a story of hate and shame that comes in and drives out love. Adam Johnson had his brother killed by a Pole and since then he has hated all Polish men. But then he has to rely on the kindness of two Polish immigrants, and starts to think that maybe he is wrong after all. Lidia Kowalski is well aware that the world she has come to is full of prejudice. She has pulled out all, the stops in trying to hide that she is from Poland. But changing one’s identity is never that easy especially when she realizes that she is falling for Adam after they stole a kiss one starry night. But when he learns about her past and heritage, she knows that some things cannot be forgiven or swept under the rug.

   I have enjoyed reading your books. They are inspirational and hopeful. I love that you are a Christian and that is reflected in your books.    I started buying used books I could find on the net. I found a new Terry Blackstock at Ollie’s. I fell in love with her. Went to Library but soon ran out of her books. I then signed up for a book club. There I found you and some other Ladies that I love. Please keep writing I love your suspense and Christian faith together. Now I buy your books on BookBub, Chirp , internet and book stores. Thank you

   I love reading Christian authors. The Vanishing Point is on the New Book shelf. Thought I would try your book, and I am totally hooked. I love that you are a missionary. Always wanted to be one, but that didnt happen.

   When I read your first book The Escape, The U. S. Marshall Series then The Nikki Boyd Files Series all I want to do is read every Series you have. I just finished the 2nd book of the U. S . Marshall Series and I said oh no she can’t leave me hanging in the end of this book, so I had to Google to see if there was a 3rd book, and thank goodness there is. So now I have to get my library to get it for me. So I’ll start on the Southern Crime series. But we do need some more Nikki Boyd Files and more U. S. Marshall Series. But I love all your books.
