Lauren Smith is an American novelist that hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is best known for writing a series of novels in the romance genre, the most popular of which are The League of Rogues, Surrender, Her British Stepbrother, and Seduction series. Smith was born and bred in Tulsa and left Oklahoma when she was twenty-two years old, seeking to bridge the worlds between cowgirl and urban girl. She attended the Oklahoma State University from where she got a BA degree, majoring in political science and history. She had always been strongly drawn to antiques and old paintings in museums, and satisfied her obsession with history by exploring and writing about ancient exotic lands. Over the years, her interest in history has seen her spend time studying in varied places, including studying in Chengdu, China, Ireland and living for two summers in Cambridge, in the UK. Post college, she would attend the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada and the Detroit-Mercy where she studied law. With two Doctorate degrees in law from the US and Canada, she returned to her hometown of Tulsa where she specialized in intellectual property law.
Styling herself as an author by night and Oklahoma attorney by day, Lauren Smith writes edgy and adventurous romances illuminated by her smart phone flashlight. She became interested in a career as an author when her English teacher in the third grade asked all her students to write a story that they would present at a young writer’s summit. She wrote and illustrated her first story that explored the mysterious disappearance of brown bats that were being used by a group of evil scientists, who intended to use them to transmit an incurable disease. She found great joy in the writing of the story and sharing aspects of it such as characters and plots, a fact that made her believe that she was born to be a writer. She knew that romance was her destiny when she tried to rewrite the entire plot of the movie Titanic, just so that she could have a happy ending for Jack. Her sexy, realistic, and moving romances have won her several accolades over the years. Some of her accolades include making the shortlist for the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Award, and the Breakthrough Novel Award. She won the Greater Detroit Bookseller’s Best Award, and the New England Reader’s Choice Award.
Currently a full-time writer, she used to a full-time attorney and part time writer just a few years ago, an experience she describes as intense. She would write her romances in the most awkward and random of places such as the lounge of a courtroom bathroom basement, or in a courtroom while waiting for the judge to call her name out of a long list of cases. She is now a part time attorney and full-time writer, but has always thought of herself as a full-time writer, even during her full-time attorney days since she always had her novels in her mind. She now spends her days walking her dogs, running and working out in the gym, doing some legal work, reading, watching TV, and most afternoons researching and writing her romances.
The League of Rogues series of novels are about strong-willed, sensual, and intelligent ladies who fall for brooding and ravishing men with dark pasts. The women outsmart and resist the advances of these men, even as they cannot fail to acknowledge that the men have them in their spell. These men while being the most wild and proficient lovers have a tendency to run when they hear wedding bells as they either put business first or have given themselves to a life of philandering. Members of the League of Rogues, their conquests are legendary as they are unfazed with any type of sexual scandal. The women on the other hand, are trying to break free of tyrannical fathers or restrictive societal rules. The novels are for the most part a game of seduction with the ladies trying to get the men to come out of their shell of philandering or reclusive natures, to embrace the love offered to them. Even as dark forces and their pasts conspire to keep the lovers apart, they surrender to their passions believing that love in the end conquers all.
“Wicked Designs” is the delicious first novel in the League of Rogues series of novels by Lauren Smith. The lead character in the novel is Miss Emily Parr, who for far too long has had to live under the thumb of her uncle and the unwelcome advances of his business partner. She now plans to find a kindly husband that will not bother her, like her dominating uncle and his friend have done for years. Her plans seems solid enough until an incorrigible duke with flashing green eyes that hide a wounded soul takes her captive. “His Wicked Seduction” the second novel in the series is a suspenseful and steamy romance that is full of twists and turns to make your head spin. The lead in the novel is Horatio Sheridan, a woman who has always held the flame for her brother’s best friend Lucien, who had saved her from the wreckage of her parents’ carriage. Even as Lucien is a man with a rake-hell reputation who is notorious all over London for his conquests, this will not stop Sheridan who sees his cool authority mirroring her own wicked desires. What she does not know is that under his cool veneer Lucien, the Marquis of Rochester is torn between loyalty to her brother and a ripping lust for her. When an old enemy of their circle of friends threatens to harm Horatia, he takes her away to his country estate where his loyalty will be tested to the limit. He soon grants her the one wish she craves most of all, his heart and his bed. But dark forces have been lurking in the shadows determined to exact revenge on the couple, to take away their happiness and destroy the lives of their loved ones.
