Max Hawthorne is an American author.
Max was born in Brooklyn in April but would call Philadelphia home. There he would attend Central High School and graduate before enrolling in the University of the Arts and getting his BFA. He was first published in 2013 with the release of his nonfiction book, Memoirs of a Gym Rat. The book takes a close look at health clubs and is an exposé on the industry in the vein of The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.
As a best-selling author, Max is active in the writing world as a voting member and part of the Author’s Guild. He is also recognized for his Kronos Rising series, a popular series of novels in the action and science fiction genres. On top of writing for adults, he has also written works for children.
He is married and has a daughter with his wife. The family resides somewhere in the Northeast along with their Siberian Forest Cats. The cats sometimes like to sleep while he’s writing on his desk when they are not busy trying to catch his toes. Besides writing, Max is interested in boating, fishing, and collecting antiquities and fossils. He is a big sportsman and angler, even holding an IGFA world record. He is a passionate conservationist, cryptid researcher, an amateur paleontologist, archer, boxer, a singer, a song writer, and the host of Blog Talk Radio.
When Max was younger, he enjoyed reading just about everything that he could. Some of his favorite things to read included works by Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Terry Brooks, and Peter Tonkin, in addition to any Marvel Comic he could find. He also enjoyed watching Godzilla movies on television, the “Creature Double Feature”, the classic Star Trek series and the science fiction show Battlestar Galactica.
Max had written some pieces for mostly magazines focused on the outdoors for about a decade before he would sit down and write his first book. He was at the Florida Keys on vacation in 2002 and had the unique chance to go onto the sister ship to Pilar, the boat Hemingway loved so much. He had the opportunity to sit in the same chair that the author had sat down in at his own desk and had even used the same typewriter and tapped a few of the keys that this author used to write on. The experience inspired him to pursue his own interest in writing and he was hooked from that moment and ever since!
His own mind is constantly coming up with ideas for books. It never stops, even when he is sleeping. Max says that some of his best ideas actually end up coming to him when he is sleeping, so he tries to have his phone on hand so that he can text the ideas to himself instead of losing them and forgetting when he wakes up in the morning. He is friends with Chris Parker, a screenwriter, who told him years ago to buy “A Memoir of the Craft” by Stephen King and to read it thoroughly, which is the best advice he could pass on to any aspiring author.
Max Hawthorne is the creator and author of the Kronos Rising series of fictional novels. The series kicked off with the release of Kronos Rising, the first novel in the series, in 2014. The series would continue with volumes about the Kraken and also features a 2016 prequel titled Diablo and a short novella published in 2017 titled Plague. The book was the winner of a 2017 Gold Medal and the prequel and novella are both additional bonus reading that belong to the series and its world, but are not required reading as part of the main series with its longer, feature-length novels.
