Kit Rocha is the penname of the writing duo of Bree Bridges and Donna Herren who started out writing as Moira Rogers. As Moira Rogers, they were pretty successful between 2008 and 2012 penning dozens of stories, novellas, and paranormal novels. Some of their works as Moira Rogers include “Southern Arcana,” “Last Call,” “Bloodhounds,” “Down and Dirty,” “Red Rock Pass” and “Temple of Luna” series among many others. After 2012 they decided to write as Kit Rocha though most of their old works as Moira Rogers are still very popular. As Kit Rocha, the writing duo has been even more successful as they ventured into the writing sexy and gritty dystopian romance. Their most successful work is the “Beyond” series which was the winner of the Reviewer’s Choice best erotic romance in 2013 and 2015. The series has also gone on to become a USA Today and New York Times bestselling series.
Bree Bridges and Donna Herren are very much your everyday people as Bree was once upon a time a computer programmer with a voracious appetite for gritty urban fantasy, while Donna was a nursing and forensic science student with an obsession for paranormal romance. The two met in the year 2000 writing “X-Men” fan fiction and were soon the best of friends. During this time, Bree was working as a non-denominational angel paraphernalia salesperson as a side job. However, things were not going so well for her and she was struggling to pay the high rents in California. Donna invited her to live with her in Alabama and it was at the local comic book store that they met their future husbands. In 2007, they decided to write something other than fan fiction as they both believed they could write original stories and become professional authors. While they have had a lot of success, they love to consider themselves mild-mannered women from the Deep South. Both of them are married and usually use their evenings and late nights to unleash their imaginations in writing their novels while their children and husbands are asleep. They live only three miles apart from each other and when they are not writing, they love to take care of their combined fifteen chickens, 3 dogs, 9 cats, and Donna’s children.
When it comes to writing, Kit Rocha and Moira Rogers do everything together though unlike other writing duos, they divide the characters rather than the chapters. As such, it is likely that both have contributed to every scene in any of their novels. Once they are done writing, they typically divide the remaining work. Donna typically deals with pre-editing work to make everything easier for their editor while Bree is in charge of production aspects such as doing ads, posts and making and uploading files. While they usually divvy up the characters, communication is still very important for the writing duo. For Bree, her biggest struggle is that a lot of her character decisions are made by her subconscious and hence she has to get in lockstep with it before she can weave it into the plot. As such, she often walks herself backward and asks for Donna’s help to make sense of problems in character making. Donna is often the default when it comes to editing as she can keep track of the bigger picture while the more creative Bree every so often gets lost in the details while they are in the middle of the story. While Bree sometimes figures out that things have gone wrong, it is often Donna who has to figure out what exactly is not right. Given her creativity, Bree comes up with the most memorable characters that capture the attention of audiences with just how brilliant they are constructed.
Kit Rocha’s “Beyond Shame” tells the story of Noelle Cunningham. All she has ever dreamt of is escaping the walls of Eden, a place for righteous people where she has found her existence extremely restrictive since she is the daughter to a councilman. However, outside the city is nothing but the remnants of a civilization devastated by solar storms that have left the countryside ruined. The sectors around Eden are full of criminals and corrupt men like the cage fighter and bootlegger Jasper McCray. Jasper has managed to fight his way up the food chain and now is the right hand of the ruthless lead of Sector Four. He is sworn to defend his peers in the O’Kane gang and die if it came to that. But he was never prepared to deal with an exiled City girl who seemingly came from nowhere. She is undeniably innocent but there is such an intense sexual attraction that they are soon crossing all kinds of lines that Noelle though she would never cross. But if she wants to be with Jasper, she will need to be introduced into the world of violence, lust, and sex where freedom is gained through submission and where passion is power.
Rocha’s “Beyond Control” is a compelling read that introduces Alexa Parrino. She is a woman that got away from a life of servitude and survived the dangerous streets of the city to become one of the most powerful people in Sector Four. She gets respect from the O’Kanes gang that rules over one of the most dangerous sectors of the city with an iron fist and hedonistic grip. She has been among the leaders of the gang for years and would give her all for the O’Kanes including kill, steal and lie though she bows to no one not even the leader of the gang, a certain Dallas O’Kane. Dallas had worked his way up the ranks of the gang the old fashioned way and now wants the best. It is a dangerous world where there are all manner of threats and dangers though he has become accustomed to the chaos. His liquor business is doing well and new opportunities on the horizon are firing him up. Alexa could be the catalyst that drives him to achieve his biggest dreams that he wants almost as much he desires her. He has always boasted that no one can resist the charms of the king of Sector Four but when they fall into bed, everything changes as the initial attraction soon becomes an obsession. Their careful dance of sweet submission and heady dominance unearths a need so strong and so deep it could destroy them both.
“Beyond Pain,” the third novel of the “Beyond” series by Kit Rocha is the story of Six, a woman who only knows that life is about living fast and dying young. For people like her life has no long term future until she met and fell for Sector Four’s gang leader. Now that she is involved with Dallas O’Kane, life has gotten even more dangerous though she has been through the worst of Sector Four growing up and thinks she can handle anything thrown at her. She has never been vulnerable and especially not to men like Brendan Donnelly despite their dominance. He is a mysterious man whose past is shrouded in darkness though he has been trained to be a killer by the best in Sector Four. He is an emotionless man unless it is about pain in the bedroom and in the cage until he meets Six. Bren feels a strong urge to protect her and by doing so he finds comfort. On her part Six craves his touch which leads them down a path or erotic discovery where there is no holding back as rough sex, flogging and voyeurism are fair fame. But he insists on not sharing her though she is so taken with him that she finally lets go. But he is still obsessed with the man that had turned him into the monster he is and this obsession could just destroy the fragile connection he had forged with Six and cost him her love.
