Kimbra Swain was indoctrinated in the ways of geekdom from early on. Raised on Tolkien, Voltron, Star Wars, and Superheroes, she found herself being immersed in a world of pure imagination. She began writing during high school and finished her English degree in 2003 from the University of Alabama.

Kimbra’s writing is influenced by all kinds of writers like Jim Butcher, J.R.R. Tolkien, Timothy Zahn, Kevin Hearne, L. M. Montgomery, and Kathy Reichs.

She was born and raised in Alabama, and lives there with her husband and daughter. When Kimbra is not busy with writing or reading, she makes jewelry, plays computer games, and builds cars.

The idea for “The Path to Redemption” began with Abigail, one of the main characters. She has seen quite a lot about the female type in fantasy. For a number of years, the female type was mainly the damsel in distress. But then, there was a push back, with wonderful kickass ladies emerging that were the complete opposite of the damsels.

With Abigail, Kimbra was hoping to do two things. First, she wanted to find the middle ground, which meant she would be formidable all on her own, yet still need help. That is when she created the other main character of Tadeas. His natural instincts are to protect humans and her, yet fears his gifts. Secondly, she wanted Abigail to be as real as possible, flawed and damaged and wanted her to misjudge situations and scramble to fix the damage she caused.

Then, she wanted each of them to get put into a situation where they needed to face these fears and flaws. It was a story that grew from her characters. The series is always going to focus on the characters no matter what kind of lethal situation they might find themselves in later on down the road.

Kimbra always thinks of the very best ideas when it is most impossible for her to write them down. If she gets stuck on some part, she takes a drive in the car or takes a long bath. Both of these are excellent as inopportune times to write down her ideas. They surely come when she least expects it.

“First Flame” is the first novel in the “Stories of Frost and Fire” series and was released in the year 2019. Her name is Wynonna Riggs, the Phoneix. Shady Grove’s first daughter knows what she is, however learning who she is, presents more of a problem.

Wynonna, the daughter of Grace Ann Bryant, travels to the bay city of Steelshore with some colleagues to search for the fairy trafficking activities of their unknown foe. As she’s there, she finds that trafficking is not the sole crime that the fairies are committing. There’s a group of Sandhedrin threatening to eradicate the fairies in Steelshore which includes Winnie herself despite the consequences that would come with pissing her Fairy Queen mother off.

A battle is brewing between fairy factions inside of Steelshore which bubbles over right into Winnie’s investigation. She is pulled into this dispute, and the life of a new friend hangs in the balance.

Winnie is focusing on her job while back at home there is trouble brewing for Mark Maynard, her best friend and Alpha of the Shady Grove pack. She must decide between her buddies back home or her new duties in Steelshore. One thing’s for certain, somebody’s going to burn. It is just a matter of whether or not it’ll be Winnie’s enemies or is her own fire going to burn out?

With a brand new cast of characters and new adventures, Wynonna Riggs steps out into the world while a blazing light along with her new buddies Dominick Meyer, Kyrie Babineau, and Soraya Harris.

“Second Sight” is the second novel in the “Stories of Frost and Fire” series and was released in the year 2020. Wynonna Riggs has got a major decision to make: save the world or her brother.

Armed with the Book of Shadows which a dead member of the Order of the Red Cloak left behind, she unlocks some secrets which nobody else could see in the book. These clues lead her to where Callum, her brother’s being held, and why the witches want him so badly.

Reyna Havlin, who is Winnie’s rival in the Sanhedrin, warns of this entity that’s entered Steelshore and hellbent on destruction. Reyna issues a challenge to Winnie to put her personal desires to the side and do what’s right for the humans that live there. The decision isn’t an easy one, and she may lose a few allies in the process. Winnie learns that her dad has faced some of the same tough choices in his life. The knowledge of the past Phoenix unlocks this uncanny sight for Winnie. What is she going to choose? Stop mass destruction in the city which is her responsibility or save her brother from being tortured?

“Triple Threat” is the third novel in the “Stories of Frost and Fire” series and was released in the year 2020. Take a walk on the wild side!

Wynonna journeys to the depths of the Wild realm looking for allies to keep a war from breaking out between the realms. She’s guided by Raphael, a Wildling. Together, they face a clan of Wights, the wrath of his family, some flesh eating imps, and a bit of treachery among friends.

She also learns more about Rafe, who’s been aiding the Fairy Bureau of Immigration in Steelshore since he showed up. With her unresolved breakup with Kyrie, her own conflicted feelings for Seamus the vampirate, and new curiosities for Rafe, she just wants to forget all the men in her life and only be the Phoenix. However that’s when yet another mysterious figure comes into her life. This dark phoenix informs her that is not alone and that he’s the only one able to offer her any peace.

The young phoenix with her mixture of Winter, Shadow magic, and fire must make some of the most difficult choices of her life. She can taste the Wild, however is she truly ever going to be free?
