Kiersten Modglin is a mystery, thriller and suspense author that has made a name for herself writing twisted dark stories that explore human nature at its worst. She published “If It Walks Like A Killer,” the debut novel of the “Carolina Killer File”s series in 2016. Nonetheless, she has been writing for as long as she can remember and now has more than a dozen novels to her name. The author who makes her home in Nashville Tennessee is married and has one daughter. Modglin usually writes unpredictable suspense and thriller novels which is what has earned her the name ‘The Queen of Twists.’ Outside her writing, she is a huge addict of Netflix, a psychology fanatic, a Shonda Rhimes super fan and indoor enthusiast that loves when it rains so that she can spend the whole day reading novels. She does believe that getting published is her biggest achievement to date. She has always dreamed of becoming an author and hence when she got an email saying her first novel had been sold she had one of the best days of her life.
Modglin grew up in several places starting in a small West Kentucky town and then Wilmington North Carolina, Nashville Tennessee for a few years and now lives in Southern Illinois where she found a small town she just liked. She says that moving so often has to do with her love for traveling and exploring new places. In fact, the inspiration for her debut novel “If It Walks” was inspired by the town that she used to live in North Carolina. She loved the Carolinas and when she decided to write a novel she knew that she just had to set it there. Modglin believes that small towns usually lend themselves to shocking mysteries and drama as many of the people in such places are not used to such happenings. In the big cities major crime can get lost in the urban jungle where nobody cares about strangers. But in a small town setting such as the ones she usually lives in, everyone knows everyone and crime becomes more pronounced.
When it came to writing her novels, Kiersten Modglin always knew she wanted to write psychological thrillers as this is what she could always be found reading. She had a love for thrillers since her teenage years and when she read “Gone Girl,” her first psychological thriller she was hooked. Unlike thrillers which feature domestic situations and married couples in interesting situations, psychological thrillers tend to be more complex. She could not relate to a detective investigating some gruesome serial killings or a spy on the run but what she could relate to was a wife suspecting her husband of keeping things from her or a mother in distress when her child goes missing. She loved the thrill and terror of writing and reading novels where what happens could very well happen to her. As for her biggest source of inspiration in her writing journey, she has cited several authors in the genre. She loves the works of Stephen King, Gillian Flynn, Holly Brown, Jodi Picoult, DM Pulley, Mark Edwards, Elizabeth Haynes, and JK Rowling. As for her reading, she can read anything with suspense, drama and a great ending.
Kiersten Modglin’s “The Cleaner” tells the story of Gunner James, a man that is very good at killing. He is proficient at cleaning up messes that most other professionals would struggle with. But even though he presents a tough exterior to the world, he has several secrets that have been gnawing at him. Nearly a decade ago, he had left his small hometown with no intention of ever going back. But then he stumbles into a familiar face and he now has to go back to deal with a woman he had left behind all those years past. Reagan Orick had been devastated when Gunner James the love of her life left town without goodbye or even a note saying where he was going. While he was away, she had managed to build a life that she desired but then tragedy strikes and she must decide if she can trust the man who broke her heart and is now back or go it alone. They both have explosive secrets that could destroy them but the only chance at redemption lies in telling the truth.
“The Healer” by Kiersten Modglin opens to Jesse Mathis life in a shambles. Just before his wedding, he had lost the woman he loved and his career as a surgeon was not going very well. To add to all the complication, his feelings for his best friend have been growing causing even more confusion. He has recently been stepping back from the true and tested paths and then makes a mistake which could alter the course of his life. He now has to come face to face with dark secrets that could rob him of his happiness. Will he make a decision to follow what his heart desires? If he admits his feelings, he may ruin the only anchor he has always had in his life. His friend Quinn Reynolds seems to have everything figured out. Jesse thinks she is not the commitment type of girl even though what he does not know is that she Is unable to get into committed relationships as she still is in love with him. When his life is changed by a mistake, she needs to make the choice between finally moving on or loving him as he figures out things.
Kiersten Modglin’s “The Prisoner” tells of Fletcher Denali who realizes that his whole life has been a lie. What he thought was his name is anything but and now he has to try to make sense of everything with his secret past weighing on him. But then he meets a quiet dark eyed girl named Vaida and is taken with her. But she has her own secrets that could be dangerous to Fletcher who has been working hard to insulate himself from threats. Vaida Williams needs to remain inconspicuous or else she could lose her life if her secret comes out to the wrong person. As such, when the handsome Fletcher pursue her relentlessly she thinks she may have to flee once again. He has questions she is not willing to answer though if she opens up he may just be able to offer some help. But trust is something she does not have in her psyche and she does not know if she will ever get it back.
