Dara, Amaka, and Lillian are three women that are living the dream when it comes to being expats. Singapore just seems to have so much going for it. There is constant sunshine, the tax rate is low, and there’s a great luxury goods market. That and a few other things are what makes living in this place so great. But they never thought that their lives could be turned upside down at the drop of a hat thanks to a new arrival– one that’s handsome and a bit mysterious, too.

Dara is a lawyer from the United Kingdom who just never stops working. That’s somewhat normal for people in her line of work, and makes all the more sense since she is just about to make partner at the firm. Dara also has a tough relationship with her mother, and they’re currently estranged. She also feels uncomfortable often around her colleagues, who are all very competitive.

Dara starts to become slightly insecure when there is a new hire brought on from Geneva. Lani is also a British Nigerian, and now she has been assigned to do work on what Dara thought could be a career-making case of her own. She would not naturally consider them to be rivals, but there’s no denying that Lani is a threat to her position and a man with every privilege that is perfectly ready to replace her here at the firm, a thought that is not helping her to relax any.

Then there is Amaka, a banker who hails from Nigeria. She often has a tongue that could leave you with lashes, and she’s currently in the middle of a family dispute that is really hard to deal with. It’s even worse since she’s really far from home. Amaka’s doing what she can to take her mind off of it by engaging in a romance at the workplace, but only with innocent flirting at first.

Amaka is also contending with her addiction to shopping, something that she is keeping hidden but knows that it is putting her sense of who she is at risk while also just absolutely doing incredible damage to her finances. Will being attracted to Lani end up helping or hurting her?

Then there’s Lillian, a pianist who moved from the United States to Singapore to tag along with her spouse. The marriage has now concluded, and she’s doing her best to try and remain in Singapore since she likes it so much. She cannot bring herself to part with the piano, since it is such a reminder of her parents. Instead, she takes on a job working at a language school.

Just coming into contact with Lani makes her do a double take. The guy looks just like her father. But will this end up leading to her experiencing the grief that she has put so much energy into tamping down ever since she lost them? Can she avoid spiraling into obsession as a result of it?

Dara, Amaka, and Lillian have so much in common, including their passion for living in Singapore. But when they have to contend with extra fallout from their past, the three are about to find that sometimes unfinished business finds you. Can they settle things and move on into a happy present? Read The Sun Sets in Singapore to find out!
