Mail Order Millie
Mail Order Millie is the debut novel in the Homespun series. George has had challenges taking care of his farm and four children since the death of his wife. When ladies from his church contribute money for a mail-order bride, he doesn’t oppose it since he’s desperate for a helper and companion.
He needs someone to help him take care of his family. His oldest child has tried to do more work than she was capable of doing. Millie is looking for a way into the world before getting thrown from the orphanage where she was raised. George’s letter about the requirements of his mail-orders bride fits well except for one.
When Millie arrived as the mail-order bride, George went to pick her up at the train station, where she had a cold reception. George wasn’t happy as she had not attained the age of eighteen, making him feel that she was too young to be the mother of his two girls and two boys. The coldness went on through their wedding service.
George made Millie feel rejected through their journey home, and it’s so odd how he wasn’t behaving like the Christian he claimed he was.
Millie also realizes that she must be a Christian and run a whole household. She had to sleep with the daughters in another room since her husband wanted nothing to do with her. At times he became angry if meals were not ready by the time he returned from the farm, but Millie kept improving daily.
Will they make a hay family once she meets her husband’s expectations? Can her lie separate them once they get married? The author has done marvelous work in character development, which adds flesh to the story in general.
Millie was a loving wife and worked hard to do everything right. She failed to like any normal human being and lied to her husband about her age to get out of the orphanage before getting kicked out.
She also lied to George about listening to the sermon, but she tried to be an excellent mother to the kids and a good wife to him. She cleaned, cooked and cared for the children like they were her own. All she wanted was to be the best wife and mother since she felt her heart was in the right place.
Throughout the book, Millie worked hard at a young age showing commitment to the family, but her husband didn’t thank her enough.
A Bride for Pastor Dan
A bride for Pastor Dan is the debut in the Parkside Community Church series. Pastor Dan met ann at his church at a time when she was a volunteer. He asks her out to dinner and later a movie. Dan feels blown away by her dedicated heart to the parish and her other fantastic behavior and qualities.
Anna is satisfied with her life and works as a kindergarten teacher in a local school. Her job gives her much time possible to volunteer at her church. The current pastor has brought tension among most single females in the church because he’s not only unmarried but also handsome and charming.
Pastor Dan is frustrated due to the lack of volunteers in the church until he finds Anna before she burns her feet. Anna is sure she has no luck with him, so she keeps doing her duties without minding him.
Anna was used to volunteering at the children’s ministry and never had time to meet the new pastor that has been the talk among single females. Due to Anna’s Christian spirit and all she has sacrificed in the children’s program, Dan is surprised.
He feels so much attracted to her, and Anna, too, feels attracted to Pastor Dan since she thinks he’s charming and handsome. The two love birds decide to make their relationship official by getting married.
Parkside Community Church is a series of short stories that happen as the pastor has retired from the church work and a fresh-out seminary pastor named Dan takes over the leadership. Dan feels an overwhelming pressure after the responsibilities put on him now that he has taken over the church.
The main characters in this story continue in all the five books in the series as secondary characters but are developed.
The story is told from Anna’s point of view as a generous Christian lady who considers herself unlucky in finding a suitable man to marry. At first, when she meets Pastor Dan, she’s sure he cannot be interested in a woman of her type.
A Bride for Pastor Dan is a cute and sweet romance story for lovers of short romantic stories. The story is fast-paced and easy to read and will leave you craving to know more.
Bride of Paradise
Bride of Paradise is the debut in the Mail Order Ministers series. Samuel is a pastor in Paradise, Texas and has been lonely. He later decides to write to the head of the seminary that he has graduated and expresses his need for a companion.
A few weeks later, Samuel receives a letter from the wife of the head of the seminary and a woman he has never seen, telling him the good news that a suitable bride has been found.
The President’s wife had realized that most ministers that moved to small towns were in the same dilemma and agreed to be of help to them.
Although he isn’t sure about getting married, he agrees, thinking that she may be the woman God had chosen for him. He hopes she’ll be the right one God sent to him to end his loneliness. When Kristen meets her future husband, they both discover something is lacking in them.
The longer he gets to know her after their marriage, the more he realizes she isn’t the right woman for him while she also feels that way. Can they get past their first impression of one another and become the ideal team while serving God together?
The minister, Kristen the bride and Samuel were developed with the usual human faults making them more realistic.
