The Anasazi Mystery series written by Kathleen O’Neal Gear is a well known novel series. It is comprised of 3 books in total, which were released between the years 1999 and 2001. An initially released book of this series is entitled ‘The Summoning God’. It was released by the Tor Books in 2000. Author Gear has set the plot in New Mexico, United States, at the time of the year 1263 A.D. The story revolves around a killer who roams around a dying civilization, stalks the weak into terror. At the start of the story, the Chief Browser of War arrives at a ceremonial chamber in the subterranean, which is full of headless bodies. He realizes that the haunting darkness has returned to give him nightmares once again. In order to solve the mystery behind the increasing number of dead bodies, Browser seeks the help of an elderly man from the village’s tribe. This man is known to have solved many cases before, but he is adamant not to open his mouth. Browser seems absolutely certain that this man knows who the killer is. He frantically works to hunt down the murderer, who seems to be keeping track of all his activities. From here, the novel’s plot moves to the present, where well known archaeologist William Stewart finds a mass grave full of burned bodies of tribal children, during an excavation in New Mexico. The number goes on increasing as the excavation proceeds further, forcing Stewart to call upon the renowned physical anthropologist from Canada, Dr. Maureen Cole, for help. Both Stewart and Maureen study the pattern of the mass killings and become stunned to discover the horrible methods of the killer.
Another mind blowing book written in this series by Gear is titled as ‘Bone Walker’. This book’s story also takes place in New Mexico. The Tor publication released it in 2001. At the beginning of the book, it is depicted that around 800 years have gone by since the murder of the Mogollon man in the town of Flowing Waters. The threads belonging to this evil act seem to have spread in the modern times to ensnare Maureen Cole and William Stewart. They learn about the murder of an archaeologist named Dale Emerson at the hands of a Wolf Witch. They begin to investigate this heinous act so as to unmask the killer before he kills someone else. During the investigation, Stewart comes across some disturbing secrets from his past life related to the suicide of his father. Maureen becomes baffled at the findings of numerous skeletons. It appears that the killer is a couple of steps ahead of both Maureen and Stewart, relentlessly drawing them into a trap. This novel demonstrates an unforgettable terror related to a murder many centuries ago, which transcends into the present time. Author Gear has described the plot sequences in an excellent manner, which helped it to become extremely successful all over the world.

Seems as if I remember reading the first 10 of the books of the First North Americans Books series
with W Michael Gear as author PRIOR to 1993. A college professor recommended the class read ’em prior to the fall semester the following year. Is it my imagination that I read ’em prior to 1993 or are the dates on the above website here possibly erroneous on some of the publication dates? I wanted to reread some of the books again so a girlfriend bought me 8 of the first 11 above that she could find on a website at a good price. I’m hoping to fill in the rest when I can afford it. I seldom leave home and do not much else but read! Long live the written print of books!!!
The above dates are correct.
Yes, the publisher changed the title to THE BETRAYAL. Thanks for asking.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Dissolution, and Fourth Quadrant. When does a 3rd one become available? And is it on a 3 part series?
We are so delighted that you are enjoying the DISSOLUTION series. Book 3 should be out by December of 2022. The Wyoming Chronicles series is set to be four books. We don’t have titles yet for books 3 and 4. But they are coming! Thanks for asking.
