One sour grape is not going to ruin the entire bunch if the young owner of a winery has anything to do with it. Parker Valentine always thought that it could not be any better than opening up her own personal winery in Boulder, Colorado.
However, Parker finds that she’s getting more than she bargained for when a critic of food and wine shows up at Vino Valentine out of nowhere on their very first day. Parker is worried because one single bad review could have a huge negative impact on her business and make the difference between success and shuttering.
Parker has cause for concern when the taster tries her chardonnay and then immediately collapses after tasting it. Maybe you’re thinking that he’ll make a comeback, as Parker hopes. Nope! The food and wine critic is down for the count and dies just after drinking it.
This is not a good situation for her winery. It looks very bad for her business that someone died after consuming her wares. Maybe it was murder, maybe a medical event, but no matter if it has nothing to do with her it does not look good that he sampled a glass of wine and then passed away immediately afterwards. What are people and the public at large supposed to think?
Parker is beside herself and knows that this is going to get into the press. However, it could end up going the other way and causing a lot of people to know about her business and to check it out after hearing about it, regardless of the death. That’s what the winery owner hopes, anyway.
Parker was hoping that the people who attended would not talk about it too much, but it’s too late. The news about what happened at her winery has hit the Internet and is soon spreading on social media. The hashtag #killerchardonnay starts trending, and Parker knows that her business is likely going to close if she cannot come up with some last ditch effort to help it, a Hail Mary that could rescue all of it and turn things around.
The winery owner knows that the only way to clear her name and to try and right the ship and bring her business back on track is to look into the murder personally. If she can catch a killer and find out who was responsible for this heinous act, she can not only clear her name and put her business in a good light again but also never have to stress over this again.
To keep her business open and catch a cold-blooded killer, Parker just needs to track down some cold, hard proof. Can she do that and can she figure out a way to ensnare this murderer before it’s too late? Read this cozy mystery from Kate Lansing to find out and kick off your first adventure in the California Wine Mystery series!

The setting is Boulder, Colorado, and it’s the autumn season. But right now, the leaves are not the only thing in transition. Parker’s been doing her best to try and get used to the pace at her winery as well as get used to a new relationship that has been sparked with local chef Reid Wallace.
However, this pairing gets put in danger when Reid’s estranged family decides that now would be a good time to visit and to celebrate his new restaurant opening. It goes without saying that if Reid had been alerted ahead of time then he would have likely done what he could to avoid this.
Things go poorly immediately. Reid finds himself butting heads with his family, and they start getting into fights. However, Parker really wants to try and rise above it and get to know them and make a good impression in the process.
She might find out that it’s difficult to do so when things get complicated with a murder. Reid’s sous chef is discovered dead behind the restaurant in the alley, and Reid is immediately a top suspect. Parker knows that she is going to have to put in some work if she wants to clear her boyfriend’s name. Can she solve this murder so they can get back to their cozy life together? Read this book to find out!
