Publication Order of Standalone Novels
A British author Karen Abbott has been writing for quite some time now, as she has built herself a successful career as a romance novelist. Knowing her audience and the genre well, she has managed to produce an interesting and extensive backlog of work, with over thirty books so far and counting. Setting herself up as one of the foremost voices within her industry to date, she maintains a presence whose following is continually building day-by-day.
Early and Personal Life
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Karen Abbott grew up with a keen passion for the written word, harboring a love for English and literature. Nurturing this throughout the years she would continually hone and refine her skills whilst growing, with a particular interest maintained in the romance genre. Over time she would also take inspiration from the world around her and feed it back into her material, with her themes and ideas building all the time.
Educated to a level of higher education, she would keep returning to her love of both reading and writing with an eye always set on becoming a full-time writer. Using her skills gained whilst learning, she managed to transform them to work in her favor, allowing her to write in a clearer more articulate manner. Giving her a unique style, it allowed her to create her own idiosyncratic take on the genre and find her own niche in the contemporary romance market.
All throughout her working career prior to becoming a writer full-time she kept herself focused, with a dedication towards achieving her goal. This allowed her to also continue adding to her experiences, building upon the wealth of material she now had at her disposal. Using every spare moment she had, she would turn back to her dream of becoming a writer, one day finally achieving it.
Still writing to this very day she has coming up to forty books, thus ensuring that she’s one of the most prolific romance authors to date. With a style that resonates with her readers along with characters that remain rooted in reality, she has a good insight into what it is that her audience wants. Not showing signs of stopping anytime soon, her writing career grows from strength-to-strength, something which will continue for some time yet.
Writing Career
Publishing her first novel back in 2002, Karen Abbott made her initial debut with the romance titled ‘Red Rose Girl’. Whilst it was very much a stand-alone novel it really worked at establishing her as a fully fledged romance author. It also provides not just her fans with an insight into her development as a writer, but it also allows newcomers a simple gateway into her work as well.
Writing her series Ile d’Oleron, she has three titles in the series so far, with a lot of potential to continue expanding. Set upon the eponymous island located off the west coast of France, it follows the romances that happen there in the midst of the summer. Using its location well it manages to evoke a light and breezy feeling with its easy going and light-hearted nature running throughout.
Gaining plaudits from all corners, she is fast becoming recognized as one of the foremost novelists within her field. With both the general public and the critics alike praising her work, she really has become a critical and commercial success. This is expected to continue as more and more people continue to discover her work on a constant and regular basis.
Whilst being a clear advocate for both her and her craft, Abbott has largely managed to stay out of the limelight when it comes to her novels. This has allowed her work to speak for itself, letting the reader come to their own conclusion when reading all of it. Visiting her worlds, she has a real gift for drawing the reader into her narratives, essentially allowing them to escape through their sense of idealism.
With a lot more to come yet as an author she will continue to write for quite some time to come, as there plenty more titles planned. Already having built an extensive backlog of work, she has made herself not only one of the most sought after authors in her field, but also one of the most commercially successful too. This looks set to carry on into the foreseeable future with a lot more novels planned on the horizon set to be released.
A Matter of Trust
Initially brought out through the Ulverscroft publishing label, this was first released on the 1st of July in 2003. Working as a stand-alone title, it manages to stand on its own two feet with its entirely self contained story and narrative. Creating a great summer romance, it takes certain elements of the genre and plays with them well, subverting the audience’s expectations in the process.
Approaching a wealthy businessman for assistance, Gini hopes to get help with starting up her own new venture. When he moves in and purchases the shop premises that she’s hoping to buy for herself, she’s left without any other options but to move her new design company into a disused beach hut. That’s when a beach boy going by the name of Hugo starts to get close to her following the devastating news, but is he all he initially seems? Will he also let her down? Can she ever find out the truth? Is it just a matter of trust?
Island of Secrets
Setting up the third title in her ongoing Ile d’Oleron series of books, this manages to take the narrative to a whole new level. It also contains the previous ‘A Matter of Trust’ story within it, as part of the overall collection, something which Abbott has collated. With two other titles within the same book, it also has the stories ‘Summer Island’, along with ‘A Heart Divided by War’.
In the ‘Summer Island’ novella there’s the story of Christi Davies who heads back to the St. Clare family estate in the wake of her late godmother, but all is not as it seems. Then there’s a prequel novella with ‘A Heart Divided by War’ that shines a light on all the secrets of the past through the character of Francine Devreux and her time in the French Underground Liberation army. How is all this connected? Where does the truth lie? What is really behind the island of secrets?
