Author Joseph Nassise was born in the year 1968 in Easton, Massachussetts (where he also grew up) and writes urban fantasy, comics, and role playing games. He now lives in the state of Arizona, with his wife and their four kids. His work has made its way onto the USA Today and New York Times’ bestseller lists. Joseph also publishes other work under the names Rowan Casey and Matthew Caine.
Joseph’s work has been translated into six languages, and has been nominated for the International Horror Guild Award and Bram Stoker Award. He has also served as president of the largest organization of professional dark fantasy and horror writers called the Horror Writers Association for two terms.
“This Cleansing Fire” is the first novel in the “Templar Chronicles” series and was released in the year 2005. Cade Williams (an officer with Boston SWAT) was not a believer in the supernatural. That changed when a chance encounter with one of the fallen angels ended with him just barely alive and his wife deceased. He gets out of the hospital and finds that not only is his body and soul scarred, but he has some other worldly talents all his own. He can now touch someone and see and hear what has happened to them.
Several years later, Cade (now a Knight Commander) runs a Templar combat unit made up of the elite, and is known as Echo Team. It puts him in a great position to hunt for that creature, the one that viciously attacked him and killed his wife that night.
Cade’s efforts do not get much success, until a group of necromancers try to get their hands on the artifact of the Templar to use for some evil scheme. It is the first true lead he has had in quite some time. He sets off to try to find these necromancers and the Adversary, and ends up finding something that is much worse.
The book does a great job of pulling the reader in and hooking them, from the very first sentence, and it never lets go for an instant. Fans of the novel found this had some well written characters who were even likable. The author is able to create a place that was interesting and readers would like to know more about this place in future books. There was non stop action in the book, which is always great in a series like this one.
“A Scream of Angels” is the second novel in the “Templar Chronicles” series and was released in the year 2010. A lone survivor from a secret research facility walks out of the desert and is barely living and babbles about demons hunting all throughout the halls. It makes the Templar Order quick to put Cade and the Echo Team unit he is in charge of things. They are orders to investigate the facility, and figure out what exactly happened at the place, as well as sort out any and all infernal presences that just might exist.
They encounter a being, however, that has broken Hell’s bonds and will not go back without a big fight. This enemy might just be more than even the Echo combat Team to handle.
Fans of the novel found that Cade is a strong main character. This was a thrilling ride that goes into suspense and horror, rather than urban fantasy. The book, just like the first, pulls you right in, hooks you and scares you to death at times. Readers cannot recommend these books to people enough. Some found that they are interested in seeing where things go from here.
“A Tear in the Sky” is the third novel in the “Templar Chronicles” series and was released in the year 2012. Cade finds out that his wife is not really deceased, rather she is held in a state between the living and deceased. He sets out on a mission that involves freeing her very soul from the captivity she is in.
This mission of his gets tested quite quickly when an old buddy asks him to keep Boston safe from an ancient scourge that is about to destroy it. It makes him have a horrible decision to make. Save innocent lives and do his sworn duty, or rescue the one woman that he would go through literal hell for?
Fans of the novel like the way you find out more about Cade and get to see more of his wife and what has happened to her. All of these stories have a lot of originality to them. The stories also do not require that you follow the faith discussed in the books to be able to enjoy what is going on. Some find that there is a lot here for them to enjoy and cannot wait to read more from this fantastic series.
“Infernal Games” is the fourth novel in the “Templar Chronicles” series and was released in the year 2013. The Templars have just won a tough battle, but lost a lot of personnel doing it. Echo Team too has been cut in half. Cade is able to survive the trip he took into the Beyond’s heart and the match up he had with the Adversary, but is now changed. He has no more thirst for vengeance, and his spirit is broken now. Captain Riley takes over as commander of Echo.
This is the moment that Simon Logan, ex- leader of the Council of Nine and who used to be known under the handle Necromancer, has been waiting for. He pulls off a daring prison break and is able to get out of the control of the Templar and disappears in the night. It was tough catching him the last time, and the task to catch him again falls to Captain Riley and the new Echo Team, as they know him the best.
The Necromancer takes the fight to them, rather than just wait for them to look for him. He lures ex-commander Williams away from his house, taking Gabrielle’s physical form from him.
It is just about the one thing that could bring Cade back from the haze that has become of his life. He tracks the Necromancer ruthlessly in both worlds and cannot help wondering what Logan would want with his half dead wife. Not to mention the guy that went through hell and came back to rescue his wife. He is not going to stop until Gabrielle is back by his side again.
