It turns out that there are spirits out there, and they’re drawn to salt. It can be from tears or it can be from blood. Main character Roos Beckman knows that she has a spirit companion and she is the only one who can see it.
Ruth has been dead for centuries, strange, and very corpse-like, but she’s also the main light of Roos’s life. Then a young widow with lots of money named Agnes Knoop comes to one of the backroom seances at Roos, and the two end up connecting.
Agnes asks Roos if she will come live at the mansion that she inherited from her husband at the séance, and the mansion is falling apart. Roos doesn’t really like the manor and is creeped out by it a bit, but can feel the attraction between herself and Agnes.
The only problem comes about when someone finds themselves to be dead. Will Roos be the one accused and will she get out of this intact? Read this book to find out!

The time is 1887, and the setting is the Netherlands. Lucy is a twin, and all she knows is that her twin sister is not well. She will not eat anything and continues to mumble without any of it making sense. She also is obsessed more and more with a corpse that has been dead for centuries that has just been found on the large estate of her husband.
The doctors have managed to see her and have diagnosed Sarah as having temporary insanity, presumably caused by her brain having a fever. Lucy has to do everything that she can to protect her twin from ending up someplace horrible in a lunatic asylum.
To do this, she has to get to the bottom of all the mystery that is around the condition of her sister. But she knows that her twin has to be hiding something. Lucy also knows that her twin isn’t the only one with secrets; she’s got them, too.
Lucy finds that the worst starts happening when Sarah starts behaving even more strangely. She’s not only becoming angry but she’s becoming hungry too. Lucy starts to wonder whether something is possessing her sister and trying to figure out whether it’s that or that she’s simply dealing with a person gone mad.
Lucy has to deal with the truth as her sister is changing before her own eyes. She has to face the truth of what is going on and find a way to solve it, or she could lose her forever. Will she be able to get to the bottom of this mysterious illness, or will Lucy have to accept that her twin may be forever lost to this sickness? Read this fascinating book from Johanna van Veen to find out!
