A highly popular writer, Jason Reynolds is from the USA and he spent his childhood in Washington D.C. According to his mother he was a born storyteller and therefore writing came quite naturally to him. Though there are many such storytellers and book writers like Jason Reynolds there is certainly something special and unique about him. He is a big lover of music especially the Go-Go variety and this certainly has helped him to come with an exotic and beautiful mix of both music and storytelling. This has certainly set him apart from the crowd and made him as popular as he is today.
After finishing his schooling and high schooling, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in English from The University of Maryland. This certainly helped him in quest to write better and also add a bit of rhetoric in his writing style. He left for New York after his graduation to pursue his dream of writing. Like all budding writers, things were not easy and it certainly was quite tough for him as he struggled to get a toe-hold into the highly competitive and unforgiving world of writing. His first book was My Name Is Jason. Mine Too. Our Story. Our Way. It was the collaboration with his friend and roommate Griffin which led to this book being a reality. Since they there has been no looking back as he moved from one level of success to another.
His Personal Life
Not much is known about his personal life but one thing is very clear. He is very close to his mother and both of them love each other beyond words. When asked once as to how he would like to spend his holiday, he has no hesitation in stating that he would like to spend as much time as possible with his mother. Further there are a number of real life and down to earth characters who have helped him in his quest to become a good writer. He believes that the cab drivers in New York are simply amazing and there quite a few things to learn from them. He is very outspoken and shares his inner feelings quite easily and frankly. When one looks at the various books of his it certainly derives lot of inspiration and ideas from the kind of life which he has led with his friends, relatives and others.
A Look At Some Of His Books

Quite a few of his other books including As Brave As You and The Boy In The Black Suit have also become quite famous and have won a number of accolades and fame.
We will now have a look at a few of his books and try and understand the outline of the same so that customers can get to know more about his style of writing and how he goes about describing the various characters, events, happenings and situations.
My Name Is Jason. Mine Too: Our Story, Our Way
This is well and truly the coming together of two powerful artistic expressions, the pen and the paintbrush. This is the story of two Jasons who live in New York City. They are in this city like thousands of others who are running after their dreams and trying to escape from the cages that life has put them in. It is story of hard struggle where even decent food is difficult to come by. The story talks about these two friends surviving on coffee and cereal in their quest to make it big in their lives. While one Jason writes poems the other Jason makes pictures out of it and hence it is well and truly a visual representation of their journey. Their journey takes them through many ups and down but at the end of the day there is no doubt that they are able to make it big and achieve their common goals and objectives. Though the pictures and poems are written by two different entities, since their goals are common there is no doubt that there is uniformity and gelling together of what is written and spoken.
Though the book may not be long by novels standards, it did take quite a bit of time writing the book and there was lot of effort involved in it. At the end of the day, Jason and Jason were quite successful in creating a wonderful window of their lives as it panned out in the streets of New York and their homes.
The Boy In The Black Suit
This is the story of a seventeen year old, who seemingly is overwhelmed with problems and may not be able to handle it any further. That is when he happens to meet a girl who has seen worse things. He feels that he might be able to take solace from her because she has learnt to take even the worst things in life in her stride. Hence, the boy feels that she will be able to help her out at least emotionally and mentally in overcoming the seemingly impossible situation that he finds himself in. The young guy Matt wears a black suit each day not because he has lost his mother but because it pays him more at the gig. He needs the money very badly because he has to support his dad who is struggling to pay off the bills. In fact the truth is that his mother has died but his reason for wearing a black suit not his mother’s death but something related to his survival. It certainly is wry and heart wrenching story of a young lad trying to find his moorings in a cruel and unforgiving world
Conclusion
Apart from the above there are a number of other books which too have been written by Jason Reynolds and it would be worthwhile to read as many of them as possible.
